I believe the most important element in a song is the message it conveys. Words are powerful, and they can build or destroy.

As a follower of Christ, I want to paint a complete portrait of life in my songs. It represents a vertical relationship with God and horizontal relationships with people, including romantic relationships.

At its core, a song is words set to music. Therefore, I believe if something is appropriate to say as a Christian, it’s appropriate to sing as well. I choose to write and sing words of love, encouragement, and truth.

It’s my vision when writing a song, and I look forward to continuing the journey.

My thoughts about the attack during the White House Correspondents Dinner:

I’m glad the suspect, Cole Allen, was quickly subdued and arrested. It was disturbing to hear from his manifesto that he believed Jesus guided him to do what he did. As a Christian, I strongly condemn it. Allen should face justice and seek the Lord’s forgiveness.

I’m grateful that the President, First Lady, Vice President, Second Lady, his cabinet, and spectators were unharmed. That said, it should be noted that the President’s longstanding tendency towards conspiracy theories is now backfiring, no pun intended.

Although I disagree and there’s no evidence to support the claim, a growing number of people — including an escalating chorus of his supporters — doubt the attack, believing it was staged to push the construction of a ballroom on White House grounds, at a staggering cost of $400 million.

Imagine how $400 million could be used to fund schools to protect students and staff from those who want to inflict harm.

The President is learning the moral of a classic story: when someone cries wolf repeatedly, the chickens will eventually come home to roost.
