I conducted this video in 2025 where I interviewed a local special education teacher. We discussed the heightened belief in stigma and negative label within the black community.

Due to generations of distrust of the medical industry, many in the black community reject the idea/diagnosis of ADHD for their kids which in turn creates a gap in receiving resources needed for long term lifestyle benefits.

This hurts the community more than it helps. Today I want to discuss this issue. As a mom of a daughter who struggled for years due to ADHD but now thriving in college, had I rejected resources she desperately needed as a child, I would have allowed her to continue to struggle. She would not be the thriving adult that she is now. I have seen it first hand struggling young adults with ADHD who never received any help as kids.

ADHD can feel like a negative label or stigma for many but nothing ...

For years, I watched my daughter struggle in ways many people couldn't see.

She worked twice as hard as her classmates just to keep up. Homework battles felt endless. Forgotten assignments, emotional overwhelm, difficulty focusing, and social challenges often left both of us feeling frustrated and exhausted.

As a mom, there were days when I worried about her future. I wondered if she would ever feel confident in her abilities or find her place in the world.

But here's what I learned: ADHD is not a lack of intelligence, potential, or determination.

With patience, support, understanding, and the right strategies, my daughter began to discover her strengths. Little by little, she grew more confident. She learned how her brain works, advocated for herself, and developed tools that helped her succeed.

Today, the child who once struggled academically and socially is thriving in college. Watching her pursue her goals, build meaningful friendships, and embrace who she is has been one of the greatest joys of my life.

If you're in the middle of the ADHD parenting journey, I want you to know that today's challenges do not define your child's future. Progress may not always be linear, but growth is possible.

💙 Every child deserves to be seen for their strengths, not just their struggles.

One of the best actions we took in helping my daughter transform from years of struggling with ADHD to now thriving in college is an identity change.

Because of the years of struggle, her identity was that of struggle. She had very low confidence.

We realized that it didn’t matter how many tutors, IEPs or accommodations she received if what she believed about herself didn’t change.

It wasn’t about denying that she had ADHD or refusing resources. It was believing in herself. It was to not only focus on where she comes up short but celebrating each win no matter how small. Doing this grew her confidence tremendously.

💙 Dear ADHD Moms: Self-Care Isn't Selfish—It's Survival 💙

For years, I poured every ounce of my energy into helping my daughter navigate the challenges of ADHD. Doctor appointments, school meetings, homework struggles, emotional meltdowns, and endless worry became my daily routine.

What I didn't realize was that I was running on empty.

As moms, we often believe that taking care of ourselves comes last. We tell ourselves we'll rest when things calm down. We'll exercise when we have more time. We'll focus on our own needs after we've helped everyone else.

But here's what I learned: when Mom is exhausted, overwhelmed, and burned out, the entire family feels it.

Self-care doesn't have to mean expensive spa days or weekend getaways. Sometimes it's:

✨ Going to bed 30 minutes earlier
✨ Taking a quiet walk
✨ Drinking your coffee while it's still hot
✨ Saying "no" to one more obligation
✨ Reading a book for 15 minutes
✨ Giving yourself grace on hard days

Your ADHD child needs a regulated, healthy, supported parent more than they need a perfect one.

When I started prioritizing my own well-being, I became more patient, more present, and more equipped to support my daughter, and our home became calmer because of it.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, know that you're not alone.

📖 That's exactly why I created the ADHD Chaos Reset Guide—a practical resource to help moms reduce stress, create calmer routines, and bring more peace into daily life.

Do you have a teen with ADHD that will be heading off to college this fall? All teens, neurotypical or neurodivergent need independent lifestyle preparation but teens with ADHD need it the most. It is more imperative than ever to start ahead of time and it's not to late to start now.

My daughter struggled for years academically and socially with ADHD but now thriving in college.

For 30 days, I challenged myself to do something different as an ADHD mom.

Instead of focusing on the missing assignments, emotional outbursts, forgotten chores, or daily frustrations, I committed to journaling only the things I was grateful for about my daughter.

Every day, I wrote down her strengths.

Her creativity.
Her kindness.
Her resilience.
Her sense of humor.
Her ability to see the world differently.

At first, it felt difficult because, like many parents of ADHD children, I had become so focused on solving problems that I wasn't always noticing the gifts.

But something amazing happened.

The more I focused on what was right with my daughter, the more I saw what was right with our relationship.

I became more patient.
Our home became calmer.
I found myself celebrating progress instead of dwelling on struggles.

Most importantly, my daughter seemed to stand a little taller. She became more confident because she felt seen for who she was—not just for the challenges she faced.

Years ago, my daughter struggled academically and socially after being diagnosed with ADHD in the 5th grade. Today, she is thriving in college. That transformation didn't happen overnight, but changing my perspective was one of the most powerful shifts I made as a parent.

If you're feeling overwhelmed by ADHD parenting, I encourage you to try this simple exercise for the next 30 days. You may be surprised by what changes.

And if you're ready for more practical tools and strategies that helped our family move from chaos to calm, check out my ADHD Chaos Reset Starter Guide.

**The words we speak over our children matter more than we realize. 💛**

"Death and Life are in the power of the Tongue." Proverbs 18:21

There was a time when my daughter struggled daily because of ADHD.

She struggled academically.
She struggled socially.
She struggled with confidence.

As her mom, it was easy to become focused on what needed fixing, improving, or managing. But one day, I made a conscious decision: I would intentionally speak positive words over her every single day.

Instead of focusing on her challenges, I started reminding her of her strengths.

✨ You are smart.
✨ You are capable.
✨ You are creative.
✨ You are resilient.
✨ You can do hard things.

Even on the difficult days, I chose encouragement over criticism, hope over fear, and belief over doubt.

Did it solve everything overnight? No.

But over time, those positive words helped build something powerful, confidence, self-worth, and the belief that ADHD did not define her future.

Today, the little girl who once struggled so much is thriving in college. And while there were many tools, strategies, and supports that helped along the way, I truly believe that consistently speaking life, encouragement, and belief into her made a difference.

If you're parenting a child with ADHD, never underestimate the power of your words. Your child may forget a thousand reminders, but they will remember how you made them feel.

💛 If you're looking for practical strategies, encouragement, and real-life lessons from my family's ADHD journey, check out my **ADHD Chaos Reset Starter Guide**.

My daughter was diagnosed with ADHD in the 5th grade and faced years of challenges before finding her path to success. I've packed this guide with many of the tools and mindset shifts that helped our family move from chaos to confidence.

For 30 days, I made one powerful commitment as an ADHD mom…
I stopped focusing on everything going wrong and started intentionally focusing on what was RIGHT about my daughter. 💛

Every single day, I journaled only the things I was grateful for about her.

At first, it felt difficult.
Because when you’re parenting an ADHD child, it’s so easy to become consumed with reminders, school struggles, emotional overwhelm, forgotten tasks, and daily stress.

But something incredible happened.

The more I focused on her strengths…
the more I noticed her brilliance.

✨ Her creativity
✨ Her compassion
✨ Her humor
✨ Her resilience
✨ Her beautiful, unique way of seeing the world

And slowly, our home began to change.

I became more patient.
She became more confident.
Our connection became stronger.

I realized my daughter didn’t need a perfect mom.
She needed a mom who truly saw her.

That experience inspired so much of what I created inside my ADHD Chaos Reset Starter Guide, a gentle, encouraging resource for overwhelmed parents who want more peace, connection, and confidence while raising ADHD kids.
