Excerpt from Ch.17
Nova
“Who are you,” I asked curious. “And how do you know Natalie?”
“How do you know Natalie?”
“I asked you—
“I don’t care if you asked me first. I’m not a child,” the woman snapped.
Flinching back, I quieted myself; as much as I wanted to demand answers and my freedom, I needed to think about my pups. I didn’t know if she would hurt me, or my pups and I was no longer willing to risk it all just to find out. I just needed to wait for Maxon or Alex to find me…
Maxon, I said calling out to him through our link but nothing.
Alex?
Mom?
“They can’t hear you,” the woman explained as if she can hear my thoughts. “I’ve cut all ties you had, temporarily of course,” she added quickly to soothe my obviously growing dread.
“Why?”
“We need your help and I needed to make sure I had your full and undivided attention. You need to know the truth, now.”
“What truth,” I asked confused. “And how do you know me and how do you know Natalie? What is all this?”
“You look so much like her,” the woman said to herself.
Slowly the darkness began to fade and a woman, maybe twenty years my senior, with a face so vaguely familiar it disarmed me; a face so like my own. We shared the same caramel skin and almond shaped eyes; our lips shared the same full pout. Her dark hair was pulled into a tight bun showing me that we shared the same ears as well; small tendrils of wispy hair framed her face, an all too familiar face but it was truly her eyes that gave it away. With the darkness completely dissipated, her hazel eyes the ones that I shared with my mother, were on her face flecked with chocolate swirls.
“Who are you,” I asked again but calmer this time.
“I am Anita, your aunt…”
I know I said 9:30am but I couldn't wait! Enjoy
