White House Correspondent Dinner - Official Statement from DGT
It is one of the most unsurprising events in recent years, considering that so many Americans now advocate for the deaths of people that they simply disagree with politically. Why? Because many in power see those they disagree with as enemies and publicly depict them as such. Who wouldn’t want to stand up to an enemy? When you compare people you disagree with to historically horrific people, you’re inviting unhinged people to commit violent acts and inviting regular people to support violence. When you use hyperbole to emphasize your distaste for someone you disagree with by alluding to harm or suffering coming from that person you have much distaste for, you’re inviting unhinged people to commit violent acts and inviting regular people to support violence. Our Nation should be defending free speech, which means you may get offended by what someone else may say. Don’t like it? Life isn’t fair and subjective opinions don’t trump the rights of others. You do NOT have the right to commit violence in the name of censorship. You do NOT have the right to commit violence in the name of political correctness. You become like our enemies when you do this. The United States was founded upon liberty of thought, action, belief, and speech, yet so many Americans would rather surrender those taken for granted, yet heavily costly freedoms up in the name of political correctness, comfort, and power. You’re no better than the British whom we declared our Independence from 250 years ago or from Hi**er, a great evil, who was a racist, and who took away the freedoms of hundreds of millions of people. This cycle of violence against people you disagree with will never end unless people stand up and not only condemn such acts, but also stop seeing those they disagree with as enemies and treating those they disagree with as enemies. It may be a new concept but you can simultaneously love someone and disagree with them. You can simultaneously disagree with someone and not seek ill will towards them. It’s called being respectful and not taking everything so literally or personally.
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”
John 13:34 NASB1995
