From Compton to the classroom!
This fall, Temple University is adding a new course to the growing list of hip-hop-centered college classes on college campuses-this time focusing on none other than Pulitzer Prize-winning rapper Kendrick Lamar.
Titled "Kendrick Lamar and the Morale of the Μ.Α.Α.D. City," the course wil be taught by Professor Timothy Welbeck in the Africology and African American Studies department.
Students will explore Kendrick's music, life, and legacy through an Afrocentric lens-unpacking everything from his upbringing in Compton to his influence on Black culture, politics, and the West Coast hip-hop canon.
This isn't the first time Kendrick's been studied in academia-courses have also popped up at Georgia Regents University, Lehigh University, and Concordia University, among others.
His cultural footprint continues to grow, especially after the release of GNX, his "Not Like Us" anthem, and that iconic Super Bowl performance.
Would you take a Kendrick Lamar course? What other artists deserve a college syllabus? Drop your thoughts below!
