Fully fitting wardrobes into a loft room.
Me again! 🫣
I'm sharing this small project I did for some friends last year, they liked my place and wanted similar so I took on the challenge.
The room was conveniently just over 3m wide and situated in a loft apartment. The ceiling was 2.8m at the highest point and 0.8m at the lowest. As always I wanted to utilise every cm and utilise the triangular space effectively.
The other challenge was that the door to the room did not allow for a 60cm depth wardrobe so I worked around this by staggering the depth of the units where needed.
Apart from 2 out of the 7 units everything was modified and cut to fit the sloping ceiling line of the room. The doors are and are hollow, after being cut they were filled and a white trim glued on to give a nice finish when open where the cut would have otherwise been visible.
The walls and ceiling were not square or straight so I installed a wooden frame which I scribed to the shape of the walls and painted to give an integrated look making the doors sit flush. This avoids odd, uneven gaps that would have been an eyesore. I also installed the original floor skirting boards below the doors to create a fitted look and aid cleaning the floor easily.
I've included a very rough sketch of the design and an ikea shopping list which excludes the 7 FORSAND white doors and hinges that were ordered separately.
