This Philadelphia International All-Stars song "Let's Clean Up The Ghetto" from 1973 could LITERALLY be the theme song for our current campaign of "Making Our Community a Decent and Safe Place to Live."

That Time I Got Ran Over By A Tank

Everybody has a song that everytime you hear it, you can remember EXACTLY where you were, what you were doing and who you were with.

In my case, I was 14. It was 1987. I was standing on the corner with some of the homies. This was the era when having a booming system in your car was a thing. Most cars were rolling through blasting LL's "I'm Bad", Eric B & Rakim's "I Know You Got Soul" or "Boyz N The Hood" by Eazy E.

But later that summer, one car rolled through playing a song that cut through the air like a knife. We all stopped what we were doing and silently followed the car with our eyes and ears as if in a trance trying to make sense of the piercing, organized noise as it thundered down the street. It sounded like NOTHING we'd ever heard. It was loud, bold and ran over you like a tank.

I would later learn the name of the group was Public Enemy and the song was "Rebel Without A Pause".

Now here we are nearly 40 years later and I finally get to talk to somebody who was helping drive that tank.

I need y'all's opinion on something.

A few weeks ago I wrote a post (see the link below) about how conflicted I was over how good some of this AI music out here is. Not just how polished and professional-sounding it is, but also how creative some of the arrangements are and how real the vocalists sound.

At the time, I was discussing a YouTube channel called "Rhythm & Quran" (R&Q) which takes verses from the Holy Quran and arranges them (verbatim) as smooth R&B songs. Since then, thousands have viewed the channel to listen to this new AI-generated genre of music. Is it dope? YES. Is it the Word straight from The Book? YES. It's been on rotation in my house for WEEKS and it's as good as anything on the radio if not better.

"YES, finally something that WE can enjoy", I thought to myself. And then a quiet 2nd thought came: "Should the revealed Word of God also be what we use as a source of entertainment?"

This Saturday on not only will I share my opinions on this, I'll also have Bro. Jason Khalil Ali, the creator of R&Q on to talk about WHY he did it in the 1st place.
