One’s light blends with the Light, and one becomes totally perfect.
Guru Jee was born in village Basarke Gillan in Amritsar. Guru Jee was the eldest son of Tej Bhan, a farmer, and trader. Sri Guru Amardas Jee was married to Mata Mansa Devi jee and had four children: two daughters, Bibi Dani jee and Bibi Bhani jee (she was married to Sri Guru Ramdas Jee), and two sons; Mohan jee and Mohri jee.
Once, Sri Guru Amardas Jee heard some hymns of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jee from Bibi Amro Jee, the daughter of Sri Guru Angad Dev Jee. He became impressed and immediately went to see Sri Guru Angad Dev Jee at Khadur Sahib. Under the impact of the teachings of Sri Guru Angad Dev Jee, Sri Guru Amardas Jee adopted Sri Guru Angad Dev Jee as his spiritual guide (Guru). Then Guru Jee started living at Khadur Sahib. Guru Jee used to rise early in the morning, bring water from the Bias River for Guru’s bath, and fetch wood from the Jungle for ‘Guru ka Langar.’
Guru Jee strengthened the tradition of ‘Guru ka Langar’ and made it compulsory for the visitor to the Guru, saying that ‘Pehle Pangat Phir Sangat.’
Sri Guru Amardas Jee constructed Baoli at Goindwal Sahib, having eighty-four steps, and made it a Sikh pilgrimage center for the first time in the history of Sikhism. Guru Jee reproduced more copies of the hymns of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jee and Sri Guru Angad Dev Jee. Guru Jee also composed 869 (according to some chronicles, these were 709) verses (stanzas) including Anand Sahib, and Sri Guru Arjan Dev Jee made all the Shabads part of Guru Granth Sahib Jee.
