"Video is a storytelling medium."

Here's why that matters more than most nonprofits realize: donors don't give because of statistics. They give because of stories.

Research backs this up — when we read facts and figures, our brain processes information. When we hear a story, our brain releases oxytocin, the same chemical tied to empathy and trust.

We don't just understand a story.

We feel it. And feeling is what moves people to act.

That's why a video listing your program outcomes will never out-perform a video showing one life changed. The data proves you're effective. The story proves you're worth believing in.

If your videos are still trying to "explain" your mission, you're leaving impact — and dollars — on the table. Show me one story, well told, and I'll remember it long after I've forgotten your annual report.

What do nonprofits need to do to raise more money? They need to share better stories.

Over the last 25+ years producing videos for ministries and nonprofits around the world, I’ve learned something important:
The videos that raise the most support are rarely the ones produced with the fanciest equipment or for the largest organizations.

They’re the ones that connect emotionally.

That’s why I created my fundraising video course for nonprofits: Video that Converts – Fundraising Strategies for Nonprofits.

Inside the course, I walk through practical techniques that organizations can start using immediately:
• Storytelling that moves people to action
• What kinds of things to film from your organization
• Interview techniques that pull out authentic emotion
• Ways to build trust and connection with donors
• How to create videos with the equipment you already have

If your nonprofit wants to create videos that inspire generosity and strengthen your mission, this course was made for you.

Most "viral" content is actually planned content.

It's coordinated, strategic and timed. It's amplified through influencers, partnerships, advocates, emails lists and sharing on social media.

The reason some nonprofit videos explode online isn't just because they're emotional. It's because someone intentionally created momentum behind the story. To really give your video a boost and help your content gain virality, you need to leverage relationships with those who have massive followings.

The organizations that consistently gain traction understand something important:
Emotion creates engagement.
Great characters. Memorable moments. Funny anecdotes. Those all work great.

But strategy creates reach.

When Invisible Children released the film Kony 2012 in 2012, it wasn't simply "viral luck." It was a highly coordinated digital campaign.

The organization strategically mobilized celebrities, influencers, student groups, churches, and activists before launch day to create immediate momentum. The film was designed for emotional impact, rapid online sharing, and a clear call to action. Supporters were given toolkits, posters, social graphics, and coordinated messaging to amplify awareness simultaneously across platforms.

Within days, millions had watched the film because the campaign combined storytelling with intentional distribution strategy.
It's a reminder that viral nonprofit content usually isn't accidental.

Emotion may spark attention — but coordination, timing, partnerships, and audience mobilization are what create scale.

This is a highlight reel filmed and produced by Arthur Rasco of Journey Light Creative in Atlanta. It was a great night of hearing inspirational stories and of changing lives. We had the privilege of also filming and producing the main video shown at the gala. All told, they raised north of $400k!

This week Arthur Rasco has been at the Kingdom Advisors conference in Orlando, Florida. Journey Light Creative was here with a client, Lifecampusa. We're working on some pretty significant projects with LifeCamp, so it was good to come and support them, all the while networking and learning more about those who are making a significant difference in the financial sector for the Kingdom of God. Tim Tebow challenged the 2700 attendees to be Bold, be a Threat to the enemies of God, and to be Urgent. He also said that “many of you don’t get to see what’s on the other end” meaning the frontlines of ministry. But as a team of filmmakers and a producers of powerful video content for our clients, we're thankful that quite often we are on the very FRONTLINES of ministry – be it in Ukraine, Israel, Tanzania, or Honduras. Pastor Louie Giglio of Passion City Church challenged attendees to store up treasures in heaven for “forever.” As we often prepare for our retirements or futures on earth, are we building up our storehouses in heaven for where we will be for forever – which is a very, very long time. So many great talks and great ideas were shared. We are very grateful to have been able to attend!
