Morgan Rhodes Studio Morgan Rhodes is a commercial photographer in the Atlanta area. I’ve always been drawn to beautiful food and packaging online and in magazines. I love to bake!

My visual career began by studying fashion and commercial photography at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Instead of continuing in that direction, I jumped into the film and television industry where I worked for 20 years in various roles. In the last decade, I’ve traveled the country as a motorsports photographer, and action sports videographer, shooting IMSA, IndyCar and SRO World Challenge.

A few years ago, I started playing around with food and product photography. I partnered with a friend to create a series of printed and digital publications including Nourish & Flourish. Our publications were in stores across the U.S., and online at PressReader and Magzter. The magazines are currently available digitally on ISSUU. I was able to tell stories about the people that create the food. It brought together my love of food and storytelling.

This journey also propelled me into professional baking. It’s both science and art. Being a bit of a science geek, I like the precision behind baking. The system of baking can only work if the function of all of its parts are doing their job. Spending time in the kitchen trying something , and watching it come together, is exciting! I’m licensed in the state of Georgia as a Cottage Food Business and have a managerial level food safety certification from ServSafe. I grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana eating great Southern food. Sugar and fat…you can’t beat it. I learned a lot about cooking from my mom and grandmothers. Each had something a little different to teach me…Mom, amazing cinnamon toast and pot roast; Nana, buttermilk biscuits; Mamaw, fried chicken and chocolate fudge. So many great recipes and great memories!

I used my grandmother’s recipe to shoot this one. It’s so rich….reminds me of being a kid. I can still see her that tiny kitchen making magic!

Being from Louisiana, I wanted to do something special to celebrate! I used Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams (my favorite, yum!) flavors in Wildberry Lavender, Maple Soaked Pancakes and Green Mint Chip to represent Mardi Gras colors. Have you tried the Maple Soaked Pancakes?! Incredible!!!

I shot the first round with a different mask cookie. When editing, it didn’t stand out on the purple background so I photographed the green mask cookie separately and popped it in. When making extras like cookies, make various colors because you never know what will look the best when it’s all together.

My Story

My visual career began by studying fashion and commercial photography at college. Instead of continuing in that direction, I jumped in to the film and television industry where I worked for 20 years in various roles. I was lucky enough to work as a digital artist restoring films from the original reels to Blu-ray. I learned a lot about image touch-up and colorization. Some of my work included the theatrical releases of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Avatar and Transformers: Dark of the Moon, as well as, the Blu-Ray and theatrical re-releases of Disney’s Snow White, Pinnochio, Dumbo, Alice in Wonderland, Fantasia 2000 and Cinderella. Other Blu-Ray projects included Star Wars: Episode 1, Aliens, Rashomon, The Robe, Terminator and True Lies.

In the last decade, I’ve worked as a motorsports photographer and action sports videographer. My clients have included TK Sport Horses, Skullcandy Team Nissan, Shadow Works Group, Shadow Works Air Assault Team (SWAAT), Best IT Racing, Andy Lee Racing, Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving, Crown Seven E-Cigarettes, AEM Performance Electronics, Autosport Image (Porsche, Ferrari, Flying Lizard Motorsports, K-PAX Racing), North American Race Car, Reiter Engineering, Blackdog Speed Shop, Andy Pilgrim Racing, PayRacer, U.S. Navy SEALS, Aspen Winter X Games and more.

Three years ago, I started playing around with food photography. I’ve always been drawn to the beauty of food online and in magazines. Along the way, I partnered with friend and publisher, Nancy Suttles, to create a series of printed and digital publications including Nourish & Flourish. Our publications are now in Barnes and Noble, Whole Foods, plus other natural food market across the U.S., and available digitally via PressReader, Magzter and ISSUU to over 300+ million readers worldwide.
