Virginia committed several crimes throughout the course of her life. Among them were multiple cases of insurance fraud, suspected arson, and at least one known murder.
Investigators were never able to definitively prove that she committed a number of crimes they suspect she did. Particularly fires- as several of her former residences burned to the ground

In 1999 when a decomposed body is found stuffed in a barrel in Jericho, New York, it's easy to presume murder. But the body had been placed in the barrel 30 years earlier in 1969.
One of the few clues was an address book found along with the body, but years of moisture had washed away the ink, which was completely gone. Scientists desperately searched for a way to reveal the information written on the pages of the address book.

Police were skeptical, especially when they learned Stacey's first husband Michael Wallace died when he was only 38 years old and she refused to consent to an autopsy.

In 1996, police in Rowlett, Texas received a call from Darlie Routier telling them of the murder of two of her sons. However, police were unsure about the validity of her story and began an intensive search of the crime scene.

The police determined the identity of the killer by analyzing blood spatter, doing behavioral profiling, and analyzing Routier’s 911 call. The evidence proved that she killed her two older sons with a knife, inflicted wounds on herself, cleaned the evidence, and created the story of a crazed intruder. Routier was convicted of first-degree murder.

In 1997, two years after a series of unsolved kidnappings and sexual assaults in California. One of the victims suddenly recalled an important detail of the crime which she had not told police. She left some forensic evidence in the assailant's vehicle, evidence that left quite an impression.
