نقل است ساربانی در آخر عمر، شترش را صدا می‎زند و به دلیل اذیت و آزاری که بر شترش روا داشته از وی حلالیت می‌طلبد. یکایک آزار و اذیت‎هایی که بر شتر روا داشته را نام می‎برد. از جمله؛ زدن شتر با تازیانه، آب ندادن ، غدا ندادن، بار اضافه زدن و …. همه را بر می‎شمرد و می‎پرسد آیا با این وجود مرا حلال می‎کنی؟ شتر در جواب می‎گوید همه این‌ها را که گفتی حلال می‎کنم، اما یک‎بار با من کاری کردی که هرگز نمی‎توانم از تو درگذرم و تو را ببخشم. ساربان پرسید آن چه کاری بود؟ شتر جواب داد یک بار افسار مرا به دُم یک خر بستی. من اگر تو را بخاطر همه آزارها و اذیت‎ها ببخشم بخاطر این تحقیر هرگز تو را نخواهم بخشید!

▪️ضرب‎المثل معروف "افسار شتر بر دُم خر بستن" اشاره به سپردن عنان کار به افراد نالایق است و اینکه چنين افرادی بدون دارا بودن تخصص، تحصیلات، تجربه و شایستگی، صرفاً بر مبنای روابط زمام امور را بدست گیرند و بدبخت جماعتی که دچار چنین افرادی شوند.
