I was the seat switch requester
The night before my flight I changed my seat to the window of the emergency exit row. However, when I got there I realized it was the one with a weird amount of extra room as pictured. For most people this would probably be great, but I like having the screen and my stuff at my feet. I meekly asked the guy in the middle seat if he would switch with me to which he agreed wholeheartedly.

For some reason though I still spent the 1.5 hour flight feeling bad that I asked him to switch 😹

Yep. Happened to me.
I was going a ski trip. Had everything planned out. Checked in early, got my seat by the window. And I really like seeing snow out from the window plane. And in the last minute, I was pulled aside by the attendant and they asked me if I can change me seat with a family traveling with an infant and they asked my window seat. Flight attendant told me they have paid for my seat in which I replied I paid for mine too. There is both other family traveling with a baby so I know whom they are referring to. And the attitude from the FA! They made me feel so bad that I actually went back and said ā€œfineā€. I just felt so disgusted! Why cannot people just planned out earlier! I planned my trip 2 months in advance! I hate it when people do stuff like these and expect everyone to accommodate them! Nonetheless they are parents too. Like, have some sense of responsibility!

Some update here:

I initially refused, but then I walked past a family with a baby only a few months old. And I just thought, what if that family had a similar situation, maybe the parents are obnoxious but the child is innocent. I hate that stupid parents for guilt tripping me but the baby….. urgh….. FINE

I am more angry at myself than any other party. Like, I can say no initially but then when people push back and started being mean I just panicked and all I want is to stay on their good side.

Thanks for all the comments. I am gonna ski now. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Lady insisted I switch window seat for her middle seat instead of her husbands window seat. Delta Flight attendant backed her up.
I know this sub gets saturated with seat switching stories. But I think I just experienced the worst one I’ve ever heard of.

I booked a window seat months ahead of time for a flight for work, as I get severe nausea if I can’t look out the window on a flight. I’m sitting next to two kids, who appear to be around 12-14 years old. Their mother appears and directs me to move to her seat so she can sit next to her kids. (She didn’t ask me to switch, she TOLD me I would be moving.). I look at where her seat is and it’s a middle seat in the second to last row.

Her husband is sitting in the window seat in that same row. I tell her that I make a point of booking a window seat over the wing to help with my nausea but I understand wanting to sit next to your kids so I can switch seats with her husband for his window seat, even though there’s more movement in the back of the plane. She responds - I s**t you not - ā€œdon’t bring my husband into this, this about needing to sit next to my kids.ā€

We went back and forth a bit where I kept pointing out that her own husband wasn’t willing to take a middle seat to allow her to sit next to her kids. Again and again, she kept saying ā€œdon’t bring my husband into this.ā€ It went nowhere so I just told her that I was sorry (I wasn’t) but that I wasn’t moving. She responded by calling me a child.

The thing that irritated me the most is that she called the flight attendant who then took her side, even after I offered one final time to change window seats with the husband and the lady refusing that offer. The flight attendant also directed (again, not asked, but told me) to move and exchange seats with this woman. I again said no, put my headphones in, and turned the music up. After a bit the lady called me a selfish as***le and took her seat. The flight attendant also went back to her other duties.

It’s been 8 hours since we landed and I can’t stop thinking about the audacity it takes to insist a total stranger switch to a middle seat to allow a family to fly together, when her own husband refused to take that same downgrade. I hope this doesn’t affect me on future Delta flights.

Edit: Its been pointed out to me I should make a clarification. The FA wasn’t insistent that I move seats, though she did say ā€œsir, just move seats with herā€ or something akin to that more than once. The FA also did imply I was being unreasonable, though she didn’t outright say it. But from the tone of her voice it was just clear she was over the whole situation and trying to find a resolution. The FA probably did mean it as a firmly-worded request rather than a clear directive under FAA regulations. It sounds like if I’d ignored a true directive it would’ve been a big deal.

Exit row makes more sense, right?
For first leg of my flight, from PDX to ATL I have the option to upgrade to C+ for 5k miles. But I'm already in an exit row with no seat in front of me (you can see my selected seat in the pic). Other than boarding a little earlier I can't think why C+ would make any more sense than where I am already. I'd have more leg room where I'm at than I would in C+ right?

GA moved my seat
So the past few days i’ve checked the app a couple times and i had 16A comf+. Checked my boarding pass right before boarding and was moved to 15F to this exit row right behind bulkhead and i don’t have any seat back to put my stuff in. i purposely didn’t choose this seat for that reason

Upgraded to the worst seat on the plane
Booked last minute and "upgraded" at boarding to seat 10C on a 737-900er. This is surely the worst seat on the plane. Narrower seat, no IFE, crappy tray table, miniature under seat storage with a bar blocking foot room, and to top it off getting smashed into by everyone else during boarding since the aisle narrows after first. The upgrade gods giveth and they taketh away.

Finally said no
I recently returned from a flight where I chose an aisle seat (did not pay extra thx to delta Amex). On this flight, a couple approached me and asked if I could change seats with one of them so they could sit together.

Guys, I gotta preface my saying I have been a chronic people pleaser all my life and have given up my seat multiple times when flying solo cuz I’m short and I really don’t care as long as it’s not a truly crap seat. This flight I felt differently. I had just finished an almost two week vacation with family and let me tell you, I was ready to just be done.

I asked if was also an aisle seat and was met with ā€˜ummmm, no a middle’. It was then that I felt a shift within me. I looked at this woman and her husband and simply said, ā€˜no thanks’. The look on her face! You would’ve thought I slapped her. She just stammered as I stood up to let her pass and then awkwardly dipped into her middle seat beside me while her husband slunk to his middle seat a row back. I can’t say that I didn’t feel tremendous guilt at first, but once they were both seated their behavior and comments immediately steeled my nerves. She was almost crying and told him through the seat crack that she didn’t like being so far away from him and this trip would just be absolutely awful without him right next to her.

Perhaps it was frustrating family dynamics from my vacation or just being completely exhausted, but I was pretty happy with myself as I slipped on my noise-cancelling headphones to drown them out and took myself a guilt-free nap.

Another seat squatter
Happened again. ā€œAre you in 25a?ā€ ā€œOh, I’m in 25e but sitting next to my husband here.ā€ ā€œMa’am, I’m 25a.ā€ Ignoring her gesture to the open middle seat across the aisle. She blusters. Full line of folks backed up the jetway waiting to board. I back up and loudly say. ā€œI’ll wait for you to get to your seat so that I can get to mine.ā€ I take a baby step back and say nothing else, no engagement. She blusters. I say nothing, standing stoically, waiting. She then makes three other people get up so she can move her stuff. She’s older it takes a while. FA comes up from the back to inquire why boarding has stopped. I say nothing and let the silence do its work. I look from the FA to the old woman and back back to the FA. The woman continues to mumble and bluster, feeling the weight of her silent shame. ā€œLet me see your boarding pass.ā€ Says the FA. ā€œIt’s in my pocket, I know what seat I need to go to.ā€ She says with raised irritated voice. I remain silent. Her husband is turning beet red. People around us start to comment about this not being southwest, and when people do this it messes up boarding and creates unneeded delays, etc. Still I say nothing. The whole thing takes about 9 or 10min. I sat next to beet red husband the rest of the flight without a word. Amazing how often people keep doing this.

Edit: I was not expecting this kind of response. Clearly I struck a nerve. For the naysayers. It happened. Dozens of people were there. It may have felt longer than 10min and been shorter than 10. But the events are true from my perspective. Others may have a different viewpoint. I am surprised at those who expected me to let this rude woman squat on my window seat expecting me to just take it and sit in her middle seat for a 100% full three hour flight. I have been surviving narcissistic bullies my whole life. Integrity lost was hers, not mine. I wasn’t going to be bullied and she had no supporters from the crowd either. Anyhow, I’m glad folks enjoyed my story. It’s obvious we all share similar situations and are very tired of the constant selfishness. Personal accountability, positive moral character and self discipline seem to be rare with too many these days. Safe work and holiday travels to everyone.

Poor man’s business class pro max
A bedside table, 3 screens, a 1.5-person bed and a scratchy pillow - what more could you ask for?

It was a full flight as well - the couple next to me got their upgrade cleared so I was the only person with a whole row. I was one place away from getting PP but hey I’ll take this over PP any day. Slept like a baby.

Got a lot of side-eyes from people queuing for the lav. šŸ˜‚
