To promote the new Final Call Radio App, which features 24/7 messages and music from the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, a challenge was issued this past summer from the national headquarters of the NOI (Nation of Islam), calling on rappers within the ranks of the FOI (Fruit of Islam) to kick a rhyme and shoot a video representing the moment. The Atlanta FOI answered the call, and the response went viral.

For the first time ever, the brothers from the Atlanta FOI Final Call Freestyle Cypher sit down with DJ Rockwell in this special edition of the Rockwell Radio Show, then step into the final “Bar Exam” freestyle session of 2025.

They tell the full story behind the cypher, the challenge, the response, and the impact, then set fire to the mics once again with even more bars!!!

This is a Rockwell Radio Special Edition | Executive Produced and Edited by Ooyiman

If you received a text from me regarding a donation, it was really me. Yeah, I know. I'd be wary of a link sent via text, too.

The Minister has served and been a defender of our people for 7 decades. His love, consistency and dedication to The Mission is unmatched. What is the "mission"? The mental resurrection of a dead people.

A sincere 'thank you' to those who have responded to help keep this work in our community going.

True DJ Stories: Episode 0015

So, I here I am attempting to update my crates with some of the current cats out there. Decided to dig into the "now" to see if there's anything I'd add to my playlist. After hours of giving the "now" cats a fair listen and after watching many videos, I have come up with a new name for this class/genre of hip-hop:

Yes, I understand that everything moves on and yes, I understand that the "golden era" is over. Things change. Sounds change. I don't expect MY heroes to be my SON'S heroes.

Yes, I get that. But wow. There is no longer a "standard" of BASIC quality.

After everybody I listened to, I am convinced of the following:

- Chief Keef is the Ice JJ Fish of rap.
- "Drill" music is only good when you're high....and I don't smoke.
- To rap ON BEAT is apparently optional.
- Originality is no longer required. They all sounded so alike, I couldn't tell where one stopped and the other began.

Was at a gig recently and somebody asked me to play some record called "Take Me Thru Dere".

Wasn't up on it.

Got home and looked up the video:

My Thoughts On De La Soul's "Cabin In The Sky (CITS)"

I remember exactly what I was doing when I read the headline that we lost David Jolicouer aka Trugoy The Dove aka Plug 2 aka Dave. It was Superbowl Sunday and Philly was getting slammed by Kansas city. When the headline came across my phone, I was no longer interested in the game. Although "3 Is The Magic Number", I felt like I was always the unofficial 4th member of De La and losing Dave was like losing someone I grew up with.

CITS is not only a celebration of Dave's life, it is a testament of love for the culture and the music. Although sorely missed, Dave's absence didn't handicap the project. It made you lean in and listen closer to Pos' passion, intensity, pain and wisdom. Now being aged 56 and 55, Pos and Mase use this project to prove that there is a place for what I call "grown folks" hip-hop. Beats (the beat for "Run It Back!!" is DISRESPECTFUL). Bars. Subjects that are relative to the times.

Lastly, take note of the cover art. It is loaded with information. Did anyone catch the subtle nod to the album cover of The Beatle's 1969 "Abbey Road" album? Although Dave missed roll call, he's still there traveling the road with Pos and Mase.

P.S. I woulda LOVED to hear Killer Mike's missing 8 bars on "A Quick 16 For Mama".

Remember when White conservatives lost their mind at the idea of so-called "critical race theory (CRT)" being taught in public school because they didn't want little Johnny to "feel bad"? Their efforts to sanitize Black History to minimize "White Guilt" didn't stop there...but most of us aren't paying attention.

Did you know that Black History was under attack? Our brother Dr. Chike Akua will drop by with the receipts and discuss how to fight back.

Last week, was my guest on and he responded to an op-ed that recently appeared in .root claiming that the Million Man March was a "total failure". To see the entire interview, go to our YouTube channel The Rockwell Radio Show.
