SPMG Atlanta - After 45 years of serving presidents and celebrities, The Varsity says goodbye to Mrs. Dablah
After four and a half decades of asking "What’ll ya have… What’ll ya have?" a beloved member of The Varsity has an order up for some rest with a side of relaxation and maybe a Varsity Orange every so often. Family, friends, and regulars said goodbyes to Mrs. Rebecca Dablah and wished her well on her retirement this week.
Mrs. Dablah joined the Varsity, the world’s large drive-in restaurant located in the heart of Atlanta, back in 1976. Since then, she has worked alongside four generations of the Gordy family, who have owned the iconic Midtown establishment since 1928.
She served presidents, dignitaries, countless celebrities, and probably a few Georgia Tech fans.
Mrs. Dablah was spotted behind the counter in a 2012 photo with President Barack Obama who dropped in at the Varsity during a campaign stop in Atlanta.
Gov. Brian Kemp retweeted The Varsity’s announcement writing:
"Very cool! Enjoy retirement. #whatllyahave"

Kandi Burruss - ・・・
We are heartbroken to announce that performances have ended for Thoughts of a Colored Man as of Wednesday, December 22.
We have tried our hardest to safely navigate the current, unfortunate health crisis, but ultimately we are unable to continue under the unfortunate conditions of Covid exposure in the city and country.
Producers Brian Moreland, Ron Simons, Diana DiMenna, Kandi Burruss, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Samira Wiley have released the following statement: “While this is not the outcome we had hoped for, being part of this historic season on Broadway has been the greatest privilege of our lives. The theatre industry’s great return is about so much more than the success or failure of any single production. As a community, we remain undeterred, unflinching and unstoppable. We have never been prouder to be theater makers than at this very moment.”
Those with tickets for cancelled performances should contact their point of purchase for refunds.

Kierra Sheard Kelly Celebrates One-Year Anniversary With A Glamorous Wedding Ceremony
Kierra Sheard Kelly celebrated her one-year anniversary with a lavish ceremony over the weekend and the pictures are everything!
Although the gospel singer married Jordan Kelly in a quiet wedding last year, the couple couldn’t have a full ceremony in the way they wanted to due to the pandemic. That all changed this weekend, however, when the couple had a full, lavish wedding ceremony to celebrate their one year of wedded bliss in Kierra’s hometown of Detroit, Michigan.
The lavish ceremony was held at the Westin Cadillac in Detroit, Michigan, and was planned by wedding planners, Elle Audrey, and Lauren Dickens. The stunning white dress that The Clark Sisters actress wore during the ceremony was designed by Ese Azenabor while Kierra’s husband’s tux was designed by Times Square Custom Clothing.
The newlyweds were all smiles and let their love shine through as they posed for their beautiful wedding pictures in front of all of their closest family and friends. Check out some of our favorite photos from the lavish ceremony inside.

Protesters filled the meeting room of the Spalding County Board of Elections in October, upset that the board had disallowed early voting on Sundays for the Nov. 2 municipal election. A year ago, Sunday voting had been instrumental in boosting turnout of Black voters.
But this was an entirely different five-member board than had overseen the last election. The Democratic majority of three Black women was gone. So was the Black elections supervisor.

A judge threw out a misdemeanor charge against state Rep. Trey Kelley on Tuesday, ruling that his failure to call 911 in response to a fatal crash wasn’t reckless conduct.
Senior Superior Court Judge Stephen Schuster dismissed the indictment against Kelley, a Republican from Cedartown, that stemmed from his friend’s collision with a bicyclist in Polk County two years ago.

A metro Atlanta UPS driver who left a kind message for a stranger during one of his deliveries is now getting that kindness back tenfold.
Dallen Harrell, 24, was making a delivery earlier this month in Roswell when he noticed a home with an oversized stork lawn sign announcing the birth of a baby boy.
Harrell left the packages and then a sweet message in the home’s Nest security camera.

A pit bull once owned by canine trainer Cesar Millan mauled one of Queen Latifah’s pets to death, and the reality TV star tried to cover up the attack by instructing his staff to tell the actress that her dog was hit by a car, according to a recently filed lawsuit.
The alleged incident is one of the more shocking revelations cited in the legal action against the “Dog Whisperer” star, brought in California by a former gymnast who claims the same dog attacked her in 2017 and ruined her career, TMZ reported.

Music Midtown is returning to Piedmont Park Saturday, but if you’re planning on attending, there are some new rules.
Festival organizers are requiring a vaccine or negative COVID-19 test to enter.
This is the first big event in the city to make that requirement and kind of a test. The same rules were required for the much larger Lollapalooza in Chicago last week and organizers hope they can repeat the same success here.
