“When judgment can be affirming, when you know your own sort of record will be scrutinized... you really want, as the psalmist often declared, judgment to be brought upon those who practice wickedness.” —Rev. Dr. Kenyatta Gilbert of Howard University School of Divinity

In this conversation from Episode 4208 of the Day1 Radio Show and Weekly Podcast, Rev. Dr. Kenyatta Gilbert and host Rev. Dr. Katie Givens Kime explore how divine judgment can be a source of comfort, accountability, and hope for a weary world.

“Judgment and justice are coming. It hasn’t been lost. It hasn’t left the building.”

In this week’s Day1 blog post, Rev. Dr. Kenyatta Gilbert reframes divine judgment—not as condemnation, but as affirmation that God’s justice still prevails.

He reminds us that judgment can be good news: a sign that God’s light continues to break through the darkness, calling us to live with grace, humility, and hope.

His sermon, "The Day Is Coming," based on Luke 21:5–19 and Malachi 4:1–2a, explores how divine judgment is not something to fear, but a reminder of God’s justice, grace, and promise of renewal.

Rev. Dr. Gilbert challenges us to look squarely at life and hold fast to faith that endures through suffering, knowing that God’s justice still prevails.

How might you see God’s judgment as grace in your own life this week?

Quick question: Is your call coming from INSIDE the house?

Rev. Dr. Kutter Callaway of Fuller Seminary joins Day1 to explore how fear, when rightly understood, can lead to deeper wisdom, courage, and trust in God.

He reminds us that fear itself isn’t the problem; it’s what we choose to fear that shapes our spiritual lives. Through this conversation, Kutter invites us to see popular culture not as a distraction from faith, but as a lens that can illuminate God’s truth in unexpected places.

Read more and explore what horror films can teach us about discipleship and courage in a fearful world.

"The future God has envisioned for God’s people does not involve the return of stability but the emergence of a new form of instability." —Rev. Dr. Kutter Callaway

This week, in preperation for this upcoming 22nd Sunday after Pentecost, we’re invited to reflect on what it means to embrace instability not as failure, but as formation.

Rev. Dr. Callaway (Fuller Seminary, Pasadena, CA) preaches a powerful word from Isaiah 43:1–3 in Episode 4,207 of the Day1 Radio Show and Weekly Podcast, which you can find here: https://day1.fm/4207

This week on the Day1 Radio Show and Day1 Weekly Podcast, we welcome Rev. Dr. Kutter Callaway, Associate Professor of Theology and Culture at Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, California.

In a world longing for stability, Dr. Callaway helps us see that God is not calling us back to the way things were, but forward into a new kind of holy uncertainty. His sermon, "A New Form of Instability," invites us to hear Isaiah 43:1‑3 as a promise for times like these: God is with us, even in the unknown, shaping faith that can weather change.

Usually when two or more are gathered, good things happen. But if you heard two voices simultaneously during yesterday’s Day1 radio broadcast, we know it wasn’t ideal.

A heartfelt thank-you to our radio listeners in the Eastern Time Zone who reached out yesterday morning to let us know that during the 25-minute and 30-minute radio versions of Rev. Susan Sparks’ powerful message, two audio tracks were playing at once. To be clear: this was entirely a technical editing error on our end, and not the fault of any of our radio affiliates.

We were able to correct and replace the files in time for our affiliates in the Central and Western time zones, and we’ve already put additional safeguards in place to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

If you’d like to hear Rev. Sparks’ full sermon as we initially intended, the complete podcast version was unaffected and is available now at https://day1.fm/4206 and wherever you get your podcasts.

Thank you for your patience, your grace, and your partnership as we continue learning and growing.
