From this week’s episode of Day1, Rev. Dr. Katie Givens Kime speaks with Rev. Jamie Butcher of Covenant Presbyterian Church about eco-grief and the church’s role in naming ecological loss faithfully.

“I don’t think we need the birds to cry and the mountains to weep to know that we are in pain when it comes to our relationship with the world.”

In this conversation, they reflect on how Scripture invites us to listen to creation without projecting our grief onto it, and how the church can hold space for sorrow with honesty and care.

Today, our gratitude begins with wonder: that the Creator of all things chose to be held, to be known, and to be named.

Friends, a most wonder-ful Christmas to you and yours, from all of us at Day1!

“Not only do we offer praise. We also have permission to sing our pain.”

This week’s episode of the Day1 Radio Show and the Day1 Weekly Podcast reflects on Psalm 148 during the First Sunday after Christmas, a season that holds joy and vulnerability side by side.

In her sermon, "Praise Through the Haze," Rev. Jamie Butcher invites us to consider how praise and lament belong together, especially when creation, grief, and hope intersect.

How does your faith make room for both praise and pain in this season?
