Ironman is taking over the southeast! The biggest sprint and the biggest Half Ironman in Georgia are this weekend and the rest are heading to Chattanooga. And let's not forgot IM Maryland just a bit further north. 6 Gap and 3 Gap should be a perfect day for the challenging climbs

NATS! LEADVILLE! LET'S DO THIS!!!! Big time racing this weekend and even 2019 USLA National Lifeguard Championships! Amy, Carl, Coach Chris, David, Jason, and Kalina are up in Cleveland conquering USA Triathlon's Age Group Nationals. Nicole, Luis, and Coach Dan are rocking the Leadville 100 mtb course and following it up with a 10k run for kicks on Sunday. Susan is crushing Lifeguarding Nationals and finally Kristen is doing a last minute sprint - Glad to see you racing again Keek!!!

We are excited for the weekend! Karen is taking on the trails of Still Hallow while Coach Chris Douglas is racing weekend 2 of 3 in a row, attacking the Lake Logan Half. Nicole and Coach Dan Arnett are heading to the mountains for a structured hike and camp at over 12,000 feet to help acclimate, improving performance/preventing injuries leading up to the Leadville Race Series 100 MTB.

While the temps cooled off in the southeast, the racing is heating up. Leonardo and Adam head to Delaware, OH for IRONMA...

While the temps cooled off in the southeast, the racing is heating up. Leonardo and Adam head to Delaware, OH for IRONMAN 70.3 Ohio. Amy, Jason, and David make a quick trip up I-85 to TritheParks Richard B Russel. Crazy Coach Dan is doing a 50k and 12.6k Sat/Sun at over 10,000ft. Kalina takes on the Boston Triathlon. And Coach Chris heads to Nashville for the Eddie Ferrell Music City Triathlon put on by Team Magic. Good luck team and everyone racing this weekend. This starts what will be a wild 2 months of racing!

Coming from our Ultrarunner extraordinaire fresh off of a 1st Female and 2nd overall at Cremator 50, Coach shares one of her go-to workouts when strapped for time as her workout of the week
30’ treadmill workout:
10 min easy warm up
Hill repeats for 10 min as follows:
1 min 4% grade hard effort (z4)/1 min 0% recovery;
1 min 4.5%/1 min recovery;
1 min 5% grade/ 1 min recovery;
1 min 4.5%/1 min recovery;
1 min 4%/1 min recovery;
10 min recovery/easy jog
When short on time, hill repeats are doable on the treadmill and can be easier to fit in at the office (may be at lunch)
Hill repeats strengthen muscles similar to resistance training, and help improve cardiovascular capacity.

Lots of fun this past weekend! Sprints, gaps, 70.3s, training, bands, camps and apple pie!

EC will be featuring our favorite workouts weekly with the hashtag
Great sub threshold workout especially if you have a U-turn heavy ITU or HIM race on the horizon.

WU:
10-15 mins of easy running
5-10 mins of dynamic stretching/drills
2x ~80m accelerations
MS:
4x2000m on the aerobic side of LT (err on the slow side!) with 400m jog recovery. At the 1km mark of each interval, make a tight U-turn.
Then,
4x200m fast with at least 200m jog recovery. Aim for mile/800m race effort and really open up while maintaining perfect form. NOT ALL OUT.
CD:
10-15’ easy

This is a bread and butter lactate threshold (LT) workout. The idea is to stay aerobic throughout the first block of the main set, which requires honesty and discipline as the workout is “doable” beyond LT-pace. Err on the slow side (especially on the first interval) to get the maximum aerobic benefit; save the show for the 200’s! Within each 2km repeat, make a sharp U turn as you would in a race. This will disrupt form/rhythm and force you to surge to get back to speed and relax back into good form.
As a reward for disciplined LT-work, throw down on the 4x200 at a fast, but controlled effort. Visualize a race down the chute with cameras on you - be fast with perfect form!
