Marukan Vinegar's origins in Japan go back to 1649, but its factory in Georgia started five years ago, when it became one of six Japanese firms setting up shop in a single "eco-industrial park" in Griffin, Ga.

We visited today with Japan- America Society of Georgia and Next Generation Manufacturing to see yet another example of how Japanese firms add to the made-in-Georgia story.

Thanks to the Griffin-Spalding County Development Authority for the meeting hospitality and to Marukan for the plant tour.

Indian Tech Exec ‘Driven’ Toward Leadership Success - Global Atlanta

In tech executive Lalit Dhingra's view, is not a skill to be mastered academically, but a set of lessons to be acquired on a lifelong journey of experience.

He shared his insights gleaned from an India-to-Atlanta odyssey and 40-year career at a recent Authors Amplified event at Arnall Golden Gregory LLP.

We summarize the discussion (and post a link to the full video) here:

https://www.globalatlanta.com/indian-tech-exec-driven-toward-leadership-success-via-atlanta/

For Lalit Dhingra, coming to the United States in 25 years ago was not a clear-cut choice. In 1997, before the new millennium, the path to the U.S. for Indian tech executives was not nearly as well-trodden, and especially in a place like Atlanta, the hurdles for expatriates — such as getting a dri...

Today Global Atlanta mourns and celebrates with the family of our founder and publisher emeritus, Phil Bolton.

We mourn the loss of Vicki Bolton, Phil’s wife of 43 years and tireless companion, the news of whose passing we learned Sunday morning with some surprise and a heavy dose of grief.

It would be easy for us to craft the story of Global Atlanta as one man’s vision for connecting a city with the world through the news. But as I think about how we can continue Phil’s spirit of innovation, I’m chastened by the fact that we have not spent enough time celebrating Vicki’s unsung contributions.

Like most startups, Global Atlanta (or GlobalFax in the early days, as many will remember) was a family endeavor. Vicki was the clerical side of the publication and much more as it got off the ground in the early 1990s and indeed carried much of the weight still when I joined in 2007.

But more than that, she was a constant support for Phil during his days of local journalism in Macon and Milledgeville (where they met) as well as after their move to Avondale Estates and the subsequent international reporting stint in Paris that immediately preceded his decision to create a new kind of news source bridging the local and global. As Phil acknowledged to me just recently, Global Atlanta would not have happened without her.

More than that, those outside the publication should know that Vicki always made every member of the Global Atlanta family feel like part of the Bolton family. I recall fondly Christmas parties, jazz concerts, Braves games and dinners where she worked behind the scenes to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all.

Anyone who knows the Boltons knows that interactions with this family are never transactional: Whatever they do, they do with gusto, usually for others’ benefit, finding their joy in the nexus between their interests and the world’s good. That is what I hope to continue to bring to Global Atlanta.

While we mourn, we also find our sadness tempered by a sliver of light today. Nov. 5 is not only the day that the beloved Braves are being lauded for bringing home a World Championship for their devoted fan, Vicki, but also because we can celebrate the day of Phil’s birth.

I have been lucky enough to call Phil a boss, a colleague, a friend and an international travel companion (probably more often than he would have liked). I always like to say that I’m riding his coattails in everything I do. From now on, I will be sure to acknowledge that I’m hitched to Vicki’s too.

Please read more about her life and legacy here:

It is the 10th Anniversary!

Today was the day, December 5, 2012. Ten years ago Founding Attorney Michael Manely made his winning argument before The U.S. Supreme Court. Here he and his youngest son, Ben are readying to go. In Chafin v. Chafin, Michael established that a parent whose child has been taken out of the country has not lost standing before U.S. Courts to argue for their return.

Michael was brilliant. He ignored those who advised him to be unresponsive to questions from the bench that didn't fit his narrative of the case. He took the advice of those who advised him to be an educator for The Court, who infrequently handle family law matters. Global Atlanta

You can listen to Michael argue the case here. Little did he know that months later he would learn he had won his argument unanimously!

It was a feast! The Marietta team came together on Tuesday for a potluck Thanksgiving meal. Here you see the beautiful table ready to go and Accounting Manager Ron Anderson carving the turkey for all. It was a great lunch full of delicious food but even better fellowship and company! We are grateful for our families, our team, and each and every client we serve to help get to a better place. Happy Thanksgiving to all! Global Atlanta AIB Network

The Manely Firm is thrilled to be a part of the Aurora Theatre's Festival of Trees for the second year in a row! Our Lawrenceville team helped deck the halls as we join the theatre in supporting the Lawrenceville Boys and Girls Club, B.L.A.C.T. Atl., Lawrenceville Co-Op, and Operation Santa Paws for Pets.

Want to help?

Please visit the Aurora Theatre between now and Dec. 22 and place one or more of these items under our TMF tree (located upstairs in the Donor's Lounge): a new, unwrapped toy, non-perishable food items, personal care items, and pet food or care products.

Let's all work together to support our community! Global Atlanta AIB Network
