Atlanta's German Christmas Market Grows With New Centennial Park Location - Global Atlanta

The Atlanta Christkindl Market has more than doubled in size this year to more than 60 booths, thanks to its new location at Centennial Olympic Park.

What you may not know is that with each purchase of an ornament, wooden toy, glass of gluehwein or piece of gingerbread, you're supporting German-language education throughout Georgia via the German American Cultural Foundation.

Former Mexican Community Leader’s Legacy Highlighted at Tribute Ceremony - Global Atlanta

Teodoro Maus wasn't afraid to rock the boat. The architect, academic and artist-turned-diplomat served as Mexico's consul general for most of the '90s in Atlanta, as the city's Latin population swelled in the run-up to the Olympics and beyond.

Both as a diplomat and especially later as a community activist, he was known for pointing out injustices, sometimes bluntly, and organizing the community to fight them.

Mr. Maus, who had stayed in Atlanta and became an American citizen after leaving his consular post, died in November at 84. Those reflecting on his life and legacy at the Consulado General de México en Atlanta Dec. 5 called him the patriarch of the many organizations now fighting for greater representation for the city's Latin communities.

We dipped all the way back to 1993 in our archives for this retrospective on his life and legacy:

Atlanta was barely prepared for the 1996 Summer Olympics, the city’s epic transformational event. With the Games only 90 days away, a Washington Post reporter described Atlanta as the “hospitable but anxious first city of the South is like a frazzled hostess scrambling to set the table minutes b...
