You guys may remember, I recently asked artists and producers what they were struggling with.

The most common answer was simple.
“I just want my music to sound professional.”

So this month I am hosting a four week live discussion designed to help you reach your goals sooner.

We start by defining the destination.

WEEK 1: What Is Professional Sound?
What does professional actually mean
Louder?
Brighter?
More expensive?
Or clarity consistency and emotional impact?

If you do not know where you are aiming you cannot measure where you stand.

Join me live Saturday March 7th from 12pm to 12:30pm EST (then Q&A) right here on Instagram.

Bring your questions.

If you’re wondering why so many of us feel the loss of Bob Power so deeply, here’s a clip from my favorite lecture of his.

Yes, he helped reshape the sound of Hip Hop and Soul. That part is history. But what really made him different was his mind. The way he thought about sound. The way he could break something complex down into language that felt human and simple. You don’t do that unless you genuinely love sound.

I wouldn’t be the engineer or producer I am today without his influence. And honestly, music itself wouldn’t sound the same without his contributions.

Thank you, Bob.

You can always count on understanding the moment after the moment has passed. When I was mixing in this rectangular ass room I was so frustrated with finding ways to manage space and acoustics. I managed it. There was so much chaos. I found internal peace when I could. The truth is… there will always be chaos, and the absence of it means you’re too comfortable to grow. Be grateful for what God is showing you about yourself in the moment and keep growing. I hit #1 on the iTunes sales charts from mixing a record in this room when it was still covered in plastic. First Grammy… in this exact room too. Moments come and go, so make the most of each moment. So grateful for what’s happening now and what it’s leading to. Make the best of the now moment, it’s not coming back. 2021 (25yrs after falling in love with sound). ❤️

Figured I’d share a memory. What better time than to do so than now? I remember the first time I heard spit. brought him through the lab in I think 2018 to record. I remember how he sounded so different than I imagined. He was cool-headed, talented, genuine, mature, focussed, and thoughtful in the studio. I remember saying to Smitti that he had an old soul and I was excited to see where his sound was going. Now… I hate to see black men at war but I am proud that this man calmly stood up for his family and that he’s only gotten doper over the years. “Bright now,” and bright future ahead. Keep shining.

April 11th join myself, Major Seven, Preston “Prizzie” Ried, Chelsea Mitchell, Ashlee M. Rouse, Avid (Pro Tools), Image-Line (FLStudio), and more for IMSTA FETSA at SAE in downtown Atlanta. I’m doing a special class that I hold dear to my heart and the launch of one of the programs I’ve been hinting at for a while. This class will also be dedicated to the late Killa Kalm J Hatch, and Herb Trawick, who dedicated themselves to our music community. Save it to your calendar. See you there! Feel free to message me with any questions. Full details at .

10 yrs ago this year with my brothers and . These two legends saw a lot in me before the rest of the word did. They on more than one occasion supported my ideas and poured into me as men. I’m grateful for you both and I’m honored to know you. Side note: Your boy done added a gang of greys but lost no soul. Lol.

Sending love and prayers to the family of Herb Trawick. He and Dave Pensado have been instrumental in my growth as an engineer, not just technically, but philosophically. Herb’s commitment to serving the music community and passing down knowledge was unmatched.
I am a direct reflection of that legacy.
Thank you for everything you poured into our community of misfit audio nerds. We love you.
May The Most High bless your family. ❤️
