From Chef/Owner Hudson Rouse, Babygirl (.atl) opened this past weekend with a brunch menu and an espresso program. The cafe opens just as Rising Son in Avondale Estates—another venture from Chef Hudson Rouse—closes after ten years in that neighborhood.

On the weekend brunch menu (featured here) you’ll find biscuit sandwiches, Belgian waffles (add the fried chicken + braised greens), salads, and more. The coffee program here is with a small roaster from Roswell, Natural Born Koffee (); the café will alternate what’s on drip/espresso, with single origin offerings leaning toward medium to medium-dark roasts.

Babygirl is meant to be a calming neighborhood cafe, not designed to be a coffee shop where you can bring a laptop to hang out for hours (though the bar area & the spacious outdoor patio can fill this void to an extent).

The beautiful interior design is by Atlanta-based , and visitors will immediately gravitate to the ample natural light coming through those multi-colored windows. Writing about this collaboration with .atl, Claudia of Claudhaus shares with ACS: “[T]he multi-colored windows could draw attention to our ever-changing perspectives of the outside world. A literal new perspective that really pleasantly surprises with the change of sunlight during the day.  It could be a reminder of the ebbs and flows of life, to not get too comfortable with the beauty of one thing and close yourself off to the beauty of another. Rain or sun, the light shining through looks amazing. Even more reason to make the colorful windows the focal point of the design and have the other features complement or be unchanged, grounding variables.”

Babygirl is now open daily for breakfast/lunch, and brunch on weekends. FREE parking in their dedicated lot.

After an extensive (and slightly delayed) build-out, today was the first day of soft opening for the newest location of San Francisco Coffee Roasting Company () in Midtown Atlanta.

The coffee shop occupies the lower level of the Loria Ansley () apartment complex on Peachtree Street. The apartment complex features FREE parking for guests/visitors, with no gated entry or validation required (huge bonus to see this ease of entry and dedicated parking 🅿️ lot in Midtown).

The coffee shop features all the San Francisco Coffee classics on espresso/drip/cold brew, and seasonal drinks will become available after grand opening day on Saturday, April 4. The Midtown location also features sandwiches not found in the Virginia-Highland or Candler Park locations (grilled cheese, BTA wrap, veggie hummus wrap).

The highlight of this location (besides the free parking) is a beautiful and spacious outdoor patio — swipe through the photos to see a wide angle view 😍. The coffee shop features free Wi-FI, clocked at around 75MBPs during ACS testing on-location.

Grand opening celebration is on Saturday, April 4 is from 7AM to 3PM and will feature live local musicians & local art on Saturday and Sunday.

Gonggan (gonggan / 공간) soft opened its first Atlanta-area location earlier this month and is currently operating on a Friday to Sunday schedule as it ramps up operations.

The Korean café is known for its unique desserts and lattes, with those having visited their Los Angeles or New York locations recognizing some of the items on the menu. The Atlanta-area location in Duluth pays homage to Gonggan roots of building out beautiful and unique spaces (swipe for photos of the interior and the quirky furniture), but is also working at the local level with roaster(s) for its espresso program. In Atlanta, Gonggan is collaborating with Chamblee’s Kin Coffee Co. (kincoffeeco) for the espresso program, with a Guatemalan single origin coffee on espresso; the coffee shop is currently working on a different roast with Kin Coffee Co. to unveil in the coming weeks.

The pour-over / hand brew coffee program at Gonggan focuses on some of the best-known Korean specialty coffee roasters, such Momos Coffee (Busan, South Korea), Fritz Coffee Company (Seoul, South Korea), and Clarimento Coffee Roastery (Seoul, South Korea). Gonggan will, over time, present more Korean roasters in its shop (both as pour-over options as well as on retail shelves for sale). If you’ve ever wanted to try some incredible coffees from Korean roasters, Gonggan is setting the stage in the Atlanta-area for excellence.

Gonggan means “Space” in Korean, and co-founder / operator of Gonggan, BJ Kim, explains: “Our name was inspired by the phrase: ‘A place that fills the empty spaces in life.’ To us, “space” is more than a physical environment—it’s where people connect, interact, and experience something meaningful together. That idea felt deeply aligned with what we want Gonggan to represent.”

At the link in bio, read more about Gonggan’s opening in Atlanta, see more photos, and read the Q&A on how this coffee shop came to Atlanta and what else to expect in the coming months.

☕️ Something new is brewing in the West End neighborhood of Atlanta, GA. 👀

From the founder/owner of Academy Coffee, Connan Moody, a new coffee shop + community space called Auxiliary Coffee is now open.

Sharing with ACS, Connan writes: “Auxiliary, as a name, comes from an aspiration that I have for an eventual coffee/cocktail bar. The name Auxiliary was going to be given to a room off the main bar. The room was going to have a residency program for creative people. When considering this new space, we chose to move forward with the name Auxiliary because we want this space to be an addition to the neighborhood and a third space for people to engage in community. We plan to create and host a lot of events that exist in the arts.”

Auxiliary Coffee () will follow the Academy Coffee model in showcasing roasters from all over the world, most likely in a three to four month rotation. Starting off on espresso and pour-over menu is Sorellina Coffee () from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Setting Auxiliary Coffee apart are the unique and experimental brewing techniques that guests can try. The Nucleus Paragon espresso tool, one of the centerpieces on bar, with the incorporation of a chilled brass sphere, allows for retainment of volatile aromatic compounds that would otherwise be lost to evaporation during the brewing process.

Auxiliary is a unique new spot that’s a must-visit for coffee nerds or anyone who is interested in trying unique coffees on pour-over (or espresso). There is much more to look forward to here as the community grows and the space opens up to coffee, music, and other community events.

At the link in bio, learn more Auxiliary Coffee and this new coffee experiment, see the entire espresso + pour-over menu, and read the Q&A with the owner/founder, Connan Moody.

😍 The Clarified Espresso Martini (CEM) & a unique cocktail omakase experience in Atlanta … 😍

Follow for behind the scenes coverage at Atlanta coffee shops and subscribe to the ACS newsletter (link in bio!) for occasional updates.

The cocktail omakase experience at Lucky Star () in West Midtown started in June 2025 and is currently in its second iteration for late summer. ACS was on location for a media preview of this experience and caught up with the Beverage Director, Kirk Gibson, in late August 2025.

The star of the 6-course omakase experience is the clarified espresso martini—both in presentation and taste—and with the rotary distiller on the “Tools of the Trades,” Lucky Star finally put it to good use. On the making of the cocktail, Kirk Gibson writes:

“We start by making a cold brew with vodka as the base, adding approximately 10% ground coffee by weight and letting it sit for at least 3 days, but typically 1-2 weeks. We then distill it in our BUCHI Rotovap, which is lab equipment that distills things at low temperatures. We boil off the alcohol which captures floral and roasty notes and leaves behind tannins and bitterness. We then re-dilute it to be 80 proof and combine it with a white creme de cacao and a creme de peche.”

You can find the rest of the Q&A with Chef Jason Liang () and Kirk Gibson () about menu development and this experience at the link in bio.

🎉Now open in West Midtown: The Grove 🎉

The latest expansion from Monday Night Brewing (steps away from its original brewery location in West Midtown) is The Grove, featuring a brewery, hand-crafted pizza, a curated cocktail menu, and yes, a coffee bar— all under one roof.

The Grove () features 30 draft beers on tap available year-round, a 17,000+ square foot of amphitheater-style outdoor space with fire pits, communal tables, and covered seating, and two Italian-built pizza ovens. The coffee bar features a La Marzocco espresso machine and a coffee program in partnership with Atlanta’s Dancing Goats / Kaldi’s Coffee ( / ). In addition to espresso classics, The Grove is unveiling three specialty drinks to begin operations: a strawberry shortcake latte, iced matcha with strawberry cold foam (swipe for a photo), and a lavender latte.

As the expansion of solidifies for the NW trail, The Grove is bound to become Atlanta’s destination for drinks, great food, coffee, and even a WFH spot.

Fifteen coffee-loving explorers joined this exclusive tasting event in which we got to try the newly released Ombligon Advanced
Fermentation coffee roasted by Flow Coffee Roasters (sourced from Oporopa, Huila, Colombia) four different ways: pour-over, espresso, cappuccino, and iced coffee (with the choice of black sesame or rose 🌹 cardamom cold foam). As Daniel explained, Ombligon is a relatively rare arabica coffee variety from Colombia 🇨🇴 which was unique to acquire from Producer Edinson Argote ().

Swipe to see the drinks being prepared in progress and a couple of photos from Insta stories shared by attendees. In between the espresso courses and the final iced coffee drinks, guests also tasted some delectable matcha cookies from , whose baked goods are found inside The Postcard most days.

During the coffee tasting evening, each attendee also received a postcard about this event, some ACS stickers, and a centrifuge (see last slide) filled with these Ombligon Advanced Fermentation coffee beans as a parting gift. We also held a raffle where three participants won The Postcard tote bags (hot off the presses!) filled with their choice of a coffee bag (this Ombligon that we tasted and another Geisha were some of the prizes).

Did you attend this event? Where should collaborate to have a coffee tasting experience next?

✨💥Spotlight on: Postern Coffee in Doraville, GA.✨💥

The brand and company started out during the pandemic in 2021, and have worked diligently to open a brick-and-mortar location. The grand opening of brick-and-mortar was in September 2024; at the end of 2024, highlighted Postern Coffee as one of nine notable coffee shops to open in the Atlanta area that year.

As an Asian-American owned coffee company, Postern Coffee was founded by three coffee professionals Andrew, Josh, and Yi. The company’s mission is to connect their individual and collective passions towards coffee, art, and media with their background and roots. Postern Coffee pays homage to its entrance into the specialty coffee world and community with its logo (門), which resembles the Chinese character for door.

Six months after their grand opening inside Minhwa Spirits (), ACS caught up with the founders of Postern Coffee for a Q&A about their business, their current menu offerings, and what’s to come for Postern Coffee in the year ahead—read more at the link in bio.

As ACS noted in the Final Say: Minhwa Spirits serves as an incubator to Postern Coffee (and also, Ganji— .atl), allowing them to operate indefinitely until they are ready to open their own storefront. As such business models are unusual in the city, Postern Coffee received the final recognition of the 2024 notable openings list by Atlanta Coffee Shops. The collaborative aspect of this trio of Asian-American businesses is a welcome sight and appears in multiple facets of their operations. The unofficial slogan here— “Welcome to the Jumak”—beckons in this space, where coffee, spirits, and Korean-inspired cuisine are harmoniously intertwined.

It will be exciting to see the unveiling of the roasting & tasting room in the coming months (as noted in the Q&A at the link in bio), where Postern Coffee will host more public events. Six months from their grand opening, Postern Coffee have found their groove and look to continue to innovate and grow.

Opened today, March 6, 2025 in Buckhead is The Postcard (), a new matcha 🍵 and coffee ☕️ shop that is replacing Wave 3 Coffee & Chocolates that shuttered at this location in early January 2025.

The space preserves much of the interior, but the operations of the coffee shop will highlight local roasters and other local vendors. To start, The Postcard will feature Opo Coffee ( — Decatur, GA) on drip and espresso; Flow Coffee Roasters () will also be featured on pour-over shortly after the soft opening period. Pastries will become available soon, in partnership with a local Mu Mu Bakery ().

Fans of the Wave Blue matcha, previously a #1 drink at Wave 3 Coffee & Chocolates, will be overjoyed to hear that this offering will be on the menu, using Wave 3 Matcha ( — now an online/e-commerce site).

The ACS landing page is at the link in bio, highlighting the offerings, services, and
amenities at this new spot, or point your browser directly to https://atlantacoffeeshops.com/the-postcard

In chatting with the owner, Daniel, ACS learned that The Postcard will curate a selection of postcards, books, and magazines on the themes of design, architecture, urban planning, café culture, and more within the space. Expect to see bookshelves and the interior design of the space to adapt over time to accommodate this theme. ACS has donated Issue #2 of Dialogue Magazine (.magazine), an indie/independent print magazine about cafes and coffee culture, to The Postcard, in support of curating on this theme and design.

Opened last week at a prime location of West Peachtree St. and 12th Streets (inside the building) is For Five Coffee Roasters (), a Queens, NYC-based roaster + coffee shop. The Atlanta location has been a long time coming, and ACS was aware of its pending opening going back to May 2021. The pandemic plans fell through, but the company pushed on and opened its doors in the ATL in late February 2025. The Atlanta location was worth waiting for — it is For Five’s biggest café by square footage (3,700 s.f.) across 30+ stores and represents a new flagship in Atlanta and the Southeast.

The interior features a modern aesthetic and a hotel-like lobby/interior. There is plenty of seating across the bar area, individual, and communal tables. Free Wi-Fi is available, and the coffee shop is open 7AM to 7PM daily. With this new ATL location, For Five is elevating every detail in a café experience.

As for coffee: the espresso here is Roc Center Espresso blend from (a blend of Brazilian, Colombian, and Indonesian coffee beans; tasting notes of lemon zest and cocoa).

A must-order on the coffee menu is the Freddo Cappuccino—get it iced—as that is a rare item to see on a coffee menu in Atlanta.

The coffee shop also features a full assortment of pastries and a lunch menu—these would be worth exploring over multiple days in Midtown—as well as a popular stuffed cookie 🍪 menu (IYKYK).

Opened in December 2024, Brasserie Margot () is the latest addition to the food & beverage program on premises of the 5 Star Four Seasons Hotel () in Midtown Atlanta. The elevated space is open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and is helmed by Executive Chef Jon Novak, who brings a wealth of experience from renowned kitchens, including Michelin-starred destinations.

At the heart of the approach at Brasserie Margot for both food and coffee is working closely with trusted local purveyors and vendors to source fresh and seasonal ingredients. With respect to coffee: Brasserie Margot is partnered with Rev Coffee Roasters () out of Smyrna, GA for its drip and espresso offerings. The espresso blend is custom-made by Rev for Brasserie Margot; this Margot blend consists of 80% Guatemalan, 15% Brazilian, and 5% Peruvian coffees.

The interior space of Brasserie Margot is stunning. Walking up the grand stairs from the hotel entrance to the entrance at Brasserie Margot, you are welcomed to a gorgeous setting with attentive service. Walking in to get seated, one passes the jewel-box bar that also serves as a coffee counter; a Faema E61 espresso machine is the centerpiece here.

Ordinarily, visits to luxury hotels are outside the scope of ACS, but the thoughtful local partnership with Rev Coffee Roasters made this visit a highlight; a special thanks to Caren West PR () for coordinating and hosting this recent visit in early February.
