Atlanta gathered for a screening of the Oscar-nominated documentary The Alabama Solution, a film that offers a sobering look into Alabama’s prison system and the lived experiences of those inside it. Through the voices of justice-impacted individuals Melvin “Bennu” Ray and Robert “Kinetik” Council, the documentary pulls back the curtain on conditions inside the system while challenging viewers to confront questions surrounding dignity, accountability, and the human impact of incarceration.
The film does more than present a story. It invites reflection on what is often unseen and unheard, placing real voices and lived experience at the center of the conversation. By documenting these realities, The Alabama Solution encourages audiences to think more deeply about the systems that shape lives and communities.
Following the screening, advocates, leaders, and community voices joined a panel moderated by Bridgette Simpson of Barred Business, continuing the conversation through shared insight and perspective drawn from their work and lived experiences.
