Many fans wonder why Drogon became the largest and one of the most feared dragons of his generation, especially when compared with other dragons from House Targaryen.

Drogon’s extraordinary growth can be explained by several factors. Unlike many dragons that lived within the confines of Dragonstone or were kept in the Dragonpit, Drogon spent much of his life flying freely across vast landscapes. This freedom allowed him to hunt, travel, and develop naturally without the physical restrictions that affected captive dragons.

His diet was another major advantage. Drogon had access to abundant prey and could hunt for himself, giving him the nourishment required to support his enormous growth. He also had unlimited space to fly, exercise, and strengthen his body.

Genetics may have played an important role as well. Born from Daenerys Targaryen’s dragon eggs, Drogon inherited a powerful Valyrian dragon lineage, giving him the potential to become exceptionally large and formidable.

His environment also contributed to his development. With no permanent chains, cramped chambers, or confinement, Drogon could continue growing according to his natural potential.

By the time of the later events, Drogon had reached an enormous size, approaching the scale of legendary dragons such as Vhagar. His combination of genetics, freedom, nutrition, and natural development helped make him one of the most impressive dragons ever seen in Westerosi history.

Rhaenyra’s sons were given dragon eggs in their cradles, continuing the ancient Targaryen tradition of bonding children with dragons from birth. Yet their legitimacy was constantly questioned because of their appearance and their supposed resemblance to Harwin Strong rather than Laenor Velaryon.

Those who doubted their parentage even whispered that the eggs would never hatch, believing the children lacked the true blood of the dragon. But the dragons themselves seemed to answer those accusations.

The eggs hatched successfully, producing three young dragons: Vermax, Arrax, and Tyraxes.

For Rhaenyra and her supporters, their hatching was more than a remarkable event. It became a powerful symbol of the boys’ connection to the Targaryen legacy and their place within the dynasty.

Vermax became Jacaerys Velaryon’s dragon, Arrax bonded with Lucerys Velaryon, and Tyraxes became the companion of Joffrey Velaryon.

Their existence also demonstrated just how deeply dragons were intertwined with Targaryen identity. Although the hatchlings could not settle every political question surrounding their parentage, their survival and growth made the whispers of their enemies harder to use as absolute proof against them.

In the end, three dragon eggs became three living dragons, giving Rhaenyra’s sons a powerful connection to House Targaryen and its ancient heritage.
