Tango, time jumps, and tender moments? Yes, please. This reader loved the blend of humor, heart, and historical detail in Heartburst.

"Time travel books can be tricky with their credibility. Here, the author combined 1920 and current day seamlessly throughout her story. That's a lot to keep track of and make it interesting, but at the same time, also realistic for the reader. I Loved the tango scenes. Raptor scenes, hilarious. I appreciated the author not shying away from the characters' mental health struggles and thought they were handled with sensitivity." ~ Leslie S.

☀️ Poolside approved! Here's what one reader had to say about this sizzling summer mystery...

"Death in Utopia is a super summer read. I could just imagine sitting poolside at a resort reading this with a refreshing umbrella drink. I like the characters Phillip Vega created here. He's done a great job with the female MC Karen. I'm always impressed with male authors writing strong female leads. Can't wait for the next one!" - Kelley P.

🖋️ THEWORDVERVE WRITING TIP: VERB IT UP

Verbs are the heartbeat of your sentence. And weak verbs? They’re like decaf coffee—technically doing the job, but no one’s thrilled about it.

💡 Trade “meh” for magic.
👉 "She went to the door" becomes "She stomped to the door."
👉 "The wind blew through the trees" becomes "The wind rattled the branches" or "whispered through the leaves."

The right verb doesn’t just move the sentence. It moves the reader.

🎯 Quick Fix:
Take one dull verb from your WIP today and upgrade it. Just one. Then reread the sentence.
Boom. You’re writing with verve again.

You know that scene you keep avoiding? Yeah… that one. The one that hits a little too close to home. Turns out, that might be where your best writing lives.

“Write hard and clear about what hurts.”
— Ernest Hemingway, whose fearless prose reminds us that the best stories often begin with what we know all too well.
