How you can tell you have an inexperienced amateur producer.
1. He gathers the most expensive mics in the studio and uses them in totally inappropriate ways.
2. He calls you stupid for buying API preamps because his Waves plug-ins sound exactly the same.
3. He records drums in a cramped vocal booth because he saw some incompetent as***le engineer do it years ago.
4. He uses musical terminology without knowing what the terms really mean.
5. He brings a borrowed vintage microphone to the session without the clip and no cabling or schematic with pin outs and demands you stop in the middle of set up and figure out how to make it work. (Not a standard 3 pin connector.)

That’s enough for now.

It was a wonderful good time with Shawn, Patrick & Tom at the Red Clay Theater last night and tonight. We all missed Gerry very much and wish he gets over this bug he’s got quickly.
For the historical record I did manage to play the most inappropriate C # of my lifetime. It’s a note that will live in infamy.

Does anyone have pics of The Fans at Center Stage 688 Reunion?
I’d love to have some shots of that show.

Getting close to finishing Michael Olmsted’s CD. It is a superb piece of work with an all star roster. Jeep Hook, John Chalden, Sam Sims, Fuji Fujimoto, Colin Agnew, Prisca, Ansley Stewart, Cleveland P Jones, Alfreda Gerald, Okorie Johnson, Benito Thompson, Steve Humphries, and huge apologies to any one that may have been left out.
Much of the record started at Hook House, the next set of songs we tracked basics at Tree Sound Studios and then moved to 800 to track the last handful of tunes and finish up the other songs. I’m honored to be part of the process.
It’s a truly beautiful and meaningful record.

To answer questions that are circulating.

Yes the 800 East building is up for sale.

No, there are no interested parties or imminent sale in sight.
(Predicted to be between 8 months to a year before any deal can be finalized.)

Yes I will still be booking sessions at 800 East.

Even though I am actively looking for a new studio base if you book a session
with me at 800 East it will happen at 800 East unless you prefer the alternative studio.

I will publicly announce well ahead of a move where and when I’ll be changing my home base.

Let’s keep the music flowing.

Another fresh track.

First single from Sara Hells project.
Sara’s an extremely talented a brave writer.
I couldn’t have asked for a better group of musicians to collaborate with her.
Mike Froedge, Ben Holst and Robert Henson got inside the songs and made music that supports and enhances Sara’s music and lyrics.

Premiering another Empty Room episode online tonight with a watch party! This is what we have been filming the past couple of years and it's now available on Volume. Marty and Aaron producing. Marty engineering. Aaron directing the shoot, handling main camera and editing it all together. I was involved in different capacities, assisting with shoots etcetera.

A lot (and I mean a lot) of love and labor went into these shows! And they're lovely. Two weeks ago premiered the Michelle Malone show. Tonight it's Three 5 Human (Tomi Martin and Trina Meade).

"An Empty Room is an original series exploring the connective tissue between 6 uniquely influential artists in the often overlooked Atlanta music scene streamed right here on Volume.com!"

So, tonight is the watch party for the Three 5 Human episode, at 9 p.m. Free with Volume account (an easy sign up). You have to get a "ticket" for the watch party. If you haven't signed up for a Volume account, do so then go to the below page and punch "get your ticket". If you have a Volume account just punch "get your ticket". Then show up at 9 and you're good to go.
