Theory: Fury Axtar Might Literally Be a Fury by maerae625 on
I believe Fury Axtar is a Fury, one of the “wicked and unnamed things that even Urd herself cannot see” from the House of Flame and Shadow.
In mythology, the Furies (Erinyes) are divine agents of justice, enforcers of oaths, punishers of betrayal, and avengers of wrongs. They are feared and respected by gods and mortals alike. Their purpose sounds eerily similar to Fury’s: retribution, enforcement, and deadly precision, just without the “for hire” label.
Here’s how Fury’s traits align with the mythic Furies:
• Unknown species: No one knows what Fury is. This fits the idea of her being something ancient and unnamed possibly a being outside the known Houses.
• Universally feared: Everyone knows who Fury is and what she’s capable of. Like the mythic Furies, she doesn’t hide, her reputation precedes her.
• Above the law: Fury seems free to move through territories without restriction or allegiance. The Furies in myth also answer to no one, not even Zeus.
• Power and authority: She openly threatens an Archangel, and no one dares challenge her. That level of fear and deference suggests immense power.
• Influence at the summit: Fury has a seat at the Summit for reasons never explained. If she were merely muscle or a mercenary, she wouldn’t be allowed in. Her presence implies authority or divine-level significance.
If she truly is a Fury, she might serve or even balance the Asteri’s power, enforcing cosmic justice from the shadows. Her name, her demeanor, and her aura of vengeance may not be coincidence at all.
