Birmingham singer-songwriter Jahnah (pronounced “Hannah”) Camille started playing DIY shows around her hometown as a teenager, and just a few years later was touring and sharing stages with artists like Blondshell, TOPS, and Luna Li.

She’s also become a familiar presence in Atlanta’s indie scene, sharing bills with maggie fm, Zoe Bayani, and major / major. As begins to stretch beyond Atlanta, bringing an artist up from Birmingham feels like a natural extension of the community already taking shape between artists across the South—and the kind of regional infrastructure we want to keep building.

Her latest EP, ‘My sunny oath!’, released via Winspear last year, was produced by Alex Farrar (Wednesday, MJ Lenderman, Indigo De Souza). It’s full of big guitars, addictively good hooks, and Camille’s poignant writing about growing up and grappling with misogyny, heartbreak, and figuring out who you really are in the middle of all of it.

The ascent of Atlanta hardcore/punk five-piece 𝑀𝒰𝐸𝐿𝒜𝒮 has been nothing short of meteoric. The band played their first show in June 2025 and, in barely more than a year, has already developed a burgeoning cult following, signed to Philadelphia indie label Second Engine Records, appeared in live sessions with WREK and Standard Selects, played shows across the U.S., toured Europe, and released their debut EP, ‘Bellow,’ out now on vinyl, digital, and all streaming platforms.

It isn’t difficult to understand why. MUELAS makes music that feels almost impossible to contain—because it is. Hardcore-inspired riffs and low-tuned guitars collide with mariachi and classical influences, while vocalist/violinist Susy Reyes’ (Susy R.) raging, unnerving vocals are punctuated by frequent bouts of electric violin shredding. The result is explosive without ever becoming one-dimensional or too much; the band can pivot from pummeling hardcore into something startlingly tender and then snap right back again.

The band gained widespread attention for their single “MELT,” which debuted last summer and became an anti-ICE anthem for anyone who discovered it. A q***r child of Mexican immigrants, Reyes has told us that her music is meant to process and confront the violence being inflicted on immigrant communities in the so-called U.S. Across the EP, grief, rage, q***rness, identity, and political terror become material for catharsis rather than abstraction.

One thing is clear to us: MUELAS is one of the most exciting bands we’ve seen emerge from Atlanta in a while. Come find out.

As if our opening night for on Friday wasn’t already shaping up to be enough of a rager, we decided to add a dance party 🌈👯‍♀️

We’re beyond excited to welcome Atlanta musician, producer, and absolutely phenomenal DJ to our show at
starcommunitybar! A fixture behind the decks at and underground dance floors (and hotel rooftops) around the city, Sudie has spent nearly a decade building genre-blurring sets that move through house, club, indie dance, jungle, hip-hop, R&B, Afrobeat, electropop, and wherever else the night takes her.

She’ll be holding it down between sets all night before taking over after 𝑀𝒰𝐸𝐿𝒜𝒮’s set, adding a whole other dimension to a lineup already spanning hardcore, grindcore, art rock, and post-punk.

Seven bands, SUDIE on the decks, and a whole lot of different sounds under one roof … yeah, it’s gonna be so fun. Come see for yourself!

If you’ve spent enough time around Atlanta indie music, then you probably know about mallbangs. The project of singer/songwriter and producer Aidy Morgan, mallbangs started as a solo endeavor. It wasn’t long before Morgan joined forces with Mason Palanti () to bring the songs to the stage.

Pretty quickly, mallbangs became known for one of the most emotionally raw live sets you could see in the scene, with songs defined by Morgan’s signature guitar style, addictive melodic hooks, and incredible structural climaxes. These qualities ring especially loud on “Raygun,” the mallbangs x Safety Switch dual single track that ranked #7 among our top 100 tracks in Atlanta last year.

The video above captures mallbangs at Mainline Music Fest last year, when the live project was still Morgan and Palanti as a duo. A year later, mallbangs returns to the fest as a full band, with local heavy hitters major (major, SCATTRBRAIN, Marvelous 3) and Tom Sinclair (tom sinclair) joining the fold.

The expanded lineup shapes the songs into an even more visceral and intense live experience, while preserving what made Morgan’s original project so beloved in the first place—including by an audience that has pushed “Gutter” alone past 1.2 million-plus streams across major streaming platforms.

Atlanta post-punk noise trio Split Silk understands that building up atmosphere is part of songwriting. The band pairs wiry guitars and propulsive rhythms with synths, texture, and dark melodic sensibilities, building songs that can feel tense and immediate without sacrificing space.

There’s a push and pull at the center of it: guitars that cut against more textural layers, rhythms that keep things moving while the songs themselves remain slightly unsettled. It puts the band in conversation with post-punk and new wave without reducing them to revivalism; the reference points are there, but the group truly makes them their own.

Split Silk recently joined the roster of Skeletal Lightning, with their new album, ‘Be The Divine,’ arriving Sept. 18. The 11-track record expands the trio’s sound while exploring our relationship with the natural world, technology-induced detachment, and the pressures of existing outside society’s prescribed ideas of normalcy.

stunner.atl calls what they make “100% AUTHENTIC SLOW BURN YEARNCORE,” and there’s not much reason to improve upon that description. Born out of a night of poetry and improvisation, the Atlanta trio (which includes members from playytime and Ogbf) pulls punk, noise rock, slowcore, Bossa Nova, R&B, and 2000s alt-rock into music that feels brooding, cinematic, and unusually vulnerable.

Their debut single, “Withered Boy,” and the ‘Anhelo’ EP both arrived last fall. There’s a weighted heaviness to STUNNER. that doesn’t depend on volume or major effects alone; the songs leave room for longing, restraint, and atmosphere to do just as much work as distortion.

Reed Winckler’s music feels like a collection of little stories thoughtfully gathered over time rather than simply written, recorded, and released. The Atlanta songwriter creates intimate, home-recorded songs from acoustic guitar and gentle, layered vocals, then lets Casio keyboards, field recordings, distorted organ, and other strange little sounds creep in around the edges.

Her second album, ‘Happy 9,’ arrived earlier this year via Primordial Void, following her 2024 debut, ‘Gull.’ Written and produced by Winckler herself, the record pushes her lo-fi folk further into its own world: melancholy, observant, occasionally strange, and full of the kind of small details that reward close listening.

s h e p h e r d s has spent more than a decade carving out new lanes in Atlanta DIY, pairing moody art rock with post-punk edges, funky bass, and restless percussion. All elements of their sound are delivered neatly with the unmistakable vocal stylings from both Adrian Switon and Jonathan Merenovich invoking the sonic romantics of Roxy Music and the relaxed, conversational style of Toro y Moi, respectively.

The band emerged in the early 2010s during an important flashpoint of Atlanta music that brought us Black Lips, Deerhunter, Balkans, Coathangers, Mood Rings, and many others. The scene and its higher-demand exports were dominated by garage rock and punk, but Shepherds were always reaching somewhere else while carving a lane for future art rock weirdos (like us) who f**k with punk and all its related influences, but need a little more. Pulling from art rock, soul, experimental music, and the theatrical grandeur, Shepherds does it effortlessly and uniquely without fitting neatly into any one of those traditions.

Looking back, we can see just how much this band influenced the scene we are experiencing currently. Now, more than five years away from the stage, they’re coming back.
