ogue contains critical essays published in three formats consisting of the AFA website, Substack page, and linen wrap hardcover books. An independent nonprofit publisher and platform, AFA offers the public an insight into groundbreaking international contemporary art. What is 'the catalogue'? The AFA Catalogue is not a magazine but rather a collection of scholarly essays published in a hardcover artbook format as well as presented digitally in a manner similar to an exhibition catalogue. Only the best in show artists from AFA online exhibitions are included in all formats of the catalogue, digitally and in print. The catalogue includes artists who have works in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of art. Artists included in the catalogue have also been critically published by the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, National Geographic, and Financial Times. There are also quite a few artists in the catalogue who are represented by some of the most respected galleries in the world.

Global Audience:

Aedra Fine Arts Publishing always strives to reach a global non-artist audience, in other words, the wider general public. We perform such outreach in several ways. Whenever AFA releases a new edition of the catalogue, we encourage all the artists participating in the online exhibition competition and catalogue edition, publicly and privately, to spread the word on social media and to their contacts via email. Through Google Analytics data, AFA will sometimes track 100-150 unique visitors to the site and catalogue sourced from just a single artist. The second way AFA reaches a global audience is through publishing the catalogue on Substack, a popular platform for publishers and writers to reach a readership interested in various topics. Some of AFA's website subscribers and traffic comes directly from Substack, but everyday we receive website email subscriptions from all types of sources, such as raw Google searches. Finally, AFA google-crawls every single published article and update to the website, which means when anyone googles a particular artist, over time the artist's AFA curatorial review catalogue article will pop up near the top of search results.

Although located in the United States, a slight majority of Aedra Fine Arts Publishing's website traffic comes from outside the U.S., making AFA a truly international publisher. Educating the wider general public on the latest cutting edge contemporary art remains the primary purpose of the catalogue. The AFA website and catalogue receives traffic from every country on every habitable continent. In addition, our email list, which has been built over many years containing thousands of organic subscribers, receives regular updates on newly released curatorial review catalogue articles and brand new volumes of the Hardcover Catalogue. Subscribe to our mailing list today and become part of our global community.

Aedra Fine Arts Publishing is now listed on both the public and membership-based portions of open calls on artdeadline.com. I was given this great privilege for free because AFA does not charge any fees on artists whatsoever. I used to be offered this type of service by artworkarchive.com until they all of a sudden started demanding money from me, I politely informed them that AFA is 11 years old, publishes well known established artists, and as a result, not dependent on their services...

So I just signed up for artdeadline.com in terms of their membership-based subscription which give you access to their full database of calls. It's only $24 a year and the vast majority of the exhibition calls posted are legitimate opportunities you would want to associate your art with. ArtDeadline.com is the oldest call for entry website on the web, as they were founded in 1994. As a result, they are the most trusted call site on the web by most established institutions. From my experience, their database is a much higher quality than other high-end call sites like callforentry.org or artworkarchive.com. Your much less likely to run into a vanity-opportunity on artdeadline.com than you are on the other two sites which can sometimes be littered with them. The $24 subscription a year is more than worth it in my opinion because they currently have 33 pages of legitimate calls and it is updated hourly.

So if you are looking for exhibition opportunities as an artist, where do you find them? From my own personal experience, there are only a few call sites which post legitimate exhibition opportunities which are at a fulltime-staffed professional gallery, museum, or nonprofit arts center. There are of course scam galleries and organizations, where their goal is just to rake in massive amounts of application / exhibition fees and give little attention to displaying your work competently and usually with little to no promotion, combined with limited gallery hours. You will want to avoid those. Some people put out calls just to rake in $12,000 - $18,000 (literally, do the math) in application fees over the span of a couple of months with no intention of holding a competent exhibition.

You can mostly find legitimate exhibition opportunities at:
1. Callforentry.org
2. artworkarchive.com
3. theartguide.com
4. entrythingy.com
5. artdeadline.com

You will sometimes find legitimate exhibition opportunities at:
1. wooloo.org
2. artcall.org
3. theartlist.com

You will rarely or never find legitimate exhibition opportunities at:
1. artjobs.com
2. callforentries.com
3. NYFA.org
4. artrabbit.com
5. art-3000.com
6. artweek.com
7. artshow.com

All of these sites mostly focus on opportunities in the U.S. and U.K. , so if you live outside these countries, you will rarely find useful opportunities available in your country from any of these websites I listed. Always do research on a gallery or organization before putting in an application with them. Look up images of their gallery interior on search engines to get a better idea of their presentation standards. Look up their gallery hours and the population count of the city or town they are located in. Look at google maps to see where the gallery is located, if not in a major city. Beside theses sites, some galleries do not post their exhibition opportunities on call for entry websites and only post on their gallery website, you will want to keep tabs on certain galleries and check their call section on a periodical basis for any opportunities. You may also want to contact your local government officials to see who are the right persons to contact to discover art opportunities in your area. That's actually how I secured solo exhibitions at The Colonnade performing arts theater.

At Aedra Fine Arts Publishing, I always strive to build professional networking relationships with the artists who are featured in the publications. The Catalogue is much more than just a book and online feature, it is a database and intricate network of some of the finest established artists in the world. Becoming published is not the end of the story, it's not 'game over' once an artist becomes published. There are many future opportunities for artists with AFA after becoming published, such as features in the press releases, the website, videos, and future publications. Becoming published in the catalogue is not an automatic guarantee to become published again, but if the artist has been published before, they have an advantage over other applicants who are being considered in the application process because the artist has seniority.

There are about half a dozen artists who have been published more than once in the catalogue. Although I require a one year waiting period before the artist can become published again. If you have been published in the catalogue, read the publication and look up the various artists included within on social media so you can network. Being in the catalogue is a prestigious honor because of the reputation of those who are in it. The catalogue includes artists who have works in collections of major museums, represented by outstanding galleries, published by the most notable publications, and have won the most prestigious awards. The catalogue is an authentic competitive process, nobody can pay to be in it.
