If you were a teacher, how would you grade America’s progress toward making MLK Jr’s dream a reality?
“It’s a crime in a rich nation for people to receive starvation wages.” -Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The 1963 March on Washington was an opportunity to hold the US Government accountable for guaranteeing complete equality for Black Americans... two of the demands, were never implemented and we can see the economic impact today.
No. 7: “A massive federal program to train and place all unemployed workers – Negro and white – on meaningful and dignified jobs at decent wages.”
No. 8: “A national minimum wage that will give all Americans a decent standard of living. (Government surveys show that anything less than $2.00 an hour fails to do this.)”
the average movie ticket cost have risen 985.82% from 85 cents to $9
A carton of eggs has risen 354.54% from .55 to 2.50
And gas has risen 900% from .32 to 3.20
A loaf of bread cost 22 cents . . . a gallon of gas, 30 cents.
Think about this, the current national minimum wage has only gone up 262.5% from the $2 minimum Dr. King demanded to 7.25
The cost of living has increased at a higher rate than our wages have making the pursuit of the American dream, just a dream for many.
So I ask... If you were a teacher, how would you grade America’s progress toward making Jr’s dream a reality?
