Can families work well together in business ??

Family working together is a beautiful blessing! Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
My daughters were once employed by us. And so were some of our family members. Our daughters worked hard, and eventually owned their own business as well. We started working for them when they were teenagers. We eventually quit. (The infamous interview has those details) I came back later on as a manager over their contracts. And still do assist in that area. And, they eventually became partners in our businesses where they started working in the beginning as employees.

We didn't give them anything they didn't work for or couldn't handle. And vice versa. Sometimes, our children and/or family members are a great asset. And sometimes they are not! We have to know when it won't work for us.

When we should avoid putting our children/family members in situations that could destroy our businesses?

1. When they are disrespectful. Just a ball of bad energy waiting to explode.
2. When they have a problem with alcohol or substance abuse.
3. When they are constantly making excuses.
4.When they want to borrow more money than they are working for!
5. When they are not doing a great job of getting the job done. (Non productive) Just getting paid!

It's ok for them to work somewhere else. It doesn't help them to be employed by you if it isn't a fit, and it's bad for the relationship.
