Alfonso Ribeiro invented the Carlton dance after the script just said "Carlton dances" with no details. He got inspired by Eddie Murphy’s hilarious “white boy dance” and Courteney Cox’s awkward moves in Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark” video. Ribeiro basically combined these two goofy styles and said, "Hey, why not make the corniest dance ever—and own it?" The rest is cheesy dance history!
