Using a pet microchip scanner, Brown has rescued more than 230 dogs—first checking if they are lost and can be reunited with their owners. If no match is found, she provides them a safe home at her shelter. Among the animals are a rottweiler, a golden retriever, a Great Dane, and an 18-year-old blind dachshund named Rigby. Brown found Rigby abandoned on the side of the road and decided to take him in, assuming he was near the end of his life.

Brixie was only eight months old when her story first broke hearts. A video surfaced showing her in a car, mistreated over something as small as taking a slice of pizza. For many, it was the first time seeing her pain — but for Brixie, it wasn’t new.
