I had the incredible opportunity to speak with Mike Boylan, the creator of Mike’s Weather Page! If you’ve ever tracked a storm, chances are you’ve visited spaghettimodels.com.

What started as a passion project in 2004 has grown into a go-to platform for weather enthusiasts and professionals alike. It’s an invaluable resource that has helped emergency responders, businesses, and everyday citizens make informed decisions when weather is involved.

Mike’s humility and passion for weather shine through during our conversation. Toward the end, we even got a little weather geeky discussing hurricane modeling.

Huge shoutout to Mike for his commitment to helping communities prepare and respond to severe weather events. A true Weather Hero!

The wildfires in Los Angeles have caused unprecedented damage, and the road to recovery will be long and challenging. Insurance will play a crucial role in helping individuals and businesses rebuild, but there are often hurdles like high deductibles and underinsurance.

An 831(b) plan, as part of the Internal Revenue Code, offers a unique solution for businesses. It allows them to set aside tax-deferred funds to self-insure against certain risks. This can be particularly beneficial for covering gaps in traditional insurance policies and providing financial stability in the face of unexpected events. Listen as the Van Carlson, Manager of SRA Admin 831b, discusses the benefits of this strategy for businesses of all sizes.

Insurance policies help manage the costs of damage. This can be  from severe weather events, wildfires, earthquakes, lightning strikes, and so many other perils. Still, there are situations where insurance may not cover a loss or only p...

It's heartbreaking to see the devastation caused by these wildfires in Los Angeles. The impact on communities and individuals will be long-lasting. The bravery and heroism shown by the citizens, firefighters and volunteers during these crises are truly inspiring.

Last year, Weather Heroes interviewed Robert Rickey, an Incident Meteorologist. His work helps predict fire behavior, which is essential for planning and executing firefighting strategies effectively. Robert is often on-site, in the thick of it. He shared an in-depth analysis of the impact of weather during wildfires and insight into the process of fighting wildfires.

If you would like to know more about how weather conditions affect wildfires and how firefighters use this information to combat them, check out this episode of Weather Heroes.
