Muy Adorbs!

Ember and Tank sharing a moment in their “special vests” thank you and for secure harnesses! Nothing is a 100% so supervision is a must!

If you swipe….digging in a chipmunk hole will result in lots of self grooming tonight and the ever concerned Svenderson making sure Tank is ok while rolling on ground! Sven and daddy supervising fun!

So much debate…when asked if I had opinions I jumped at the opportunity to interview on this topic, to encourage HARD SIDED cat carriers, with a top loading feature, that come apart in two halves! And PLEASE, put bedding in your cat carriers! Your cat does not wish to fly around in their like a hockey puck or swim in their own excrement should they have an accident!

Of course, I also took opportunity to advocate for my preferred strollers, you might recognize them!

From classic hard-sided carriers to snazzy strollers.

Great Pyrenees, the new breed of feline, enjoying time. In so many ways I finally have a giant wild cat in this dog. The similarities are ridiculous.

For all of those people who state their cat is a “cat dog” and so dog-like, I often say, “Nope, that’s just a cat, they are that cool, that trainable, that personable” but now I can say, I have “dog cat” which is even better! 😉

The catios and screen porch needed some serious attention. Yesterday they were all vacuumed, power washed during and despite rainstorms, plants planted, bedding laundered, the whole nine yards. Kitties are quite pleased this morning. Do you offer cat safe plants to your cats? Ours absolutely love when we freshen their plants! Like they’re living in a jungle!

27 years ago today I said yes to the dress! Well, actually, I tossed away a potential career in fashion marketing and design/interiors, so I actually tossed that dress I guess and said yes to a job in vet med. Did not know at the time it would turn out to be a lifelong career!

Like Miss Ember here, took a chance. Haven’t plummeted off a limb yet! I guess it worked out! Worried about this choice and path for a very long time, if I hadn’t taken it, well, who knows where I’d be.

I chimed in for an interview on this incredibly important topic.

To be crystal clear, I do not believe there is a single "best pelleted litter" option as pelleted litter is ending cats up in shelters and resulting in them losing their homes and lives! No, your cats does not "love their pelleted litter" they are quietly suffering. Do you like walking on legos in your bare feet? How about while knowing the feet are one of the single more sensitive parts of your body?! They do not prefer it, I promise. If given the choice, it would not be chosen.

To also be clear, there is no "best automatic box" either! Automatic litter boxes take vital information way from pet parents! You need to know how big (or small) your cat's urine clumps are, whether they are having soft stool or formed, whether it is a whole pile of f***s or a single f***l ball. This is important information to help monitor your cat's health, equaly as important as to whether or not they are eating daily!

I am quite pleased that the author included my DIY best litter box as well as a few other great options I often recommend like a cement mixing tub!

Think BIG, OPEN, AIRY!
Steer clear of covered boxes, boxes with tall opaque sides, cat doors, top entry boxes and the like!

Because cats — and their owners — can be picky.

Some really cool work being done at Virginia Tech to help shelter cats!

I routinely educate in my consultations about the importance of teaching your cat to take meds BEFORE they need meds, to willingly enter the cat carrier, to forage for their food, etc. How many of you have implemented this and seen the benefits first hand?

Students in Lisa Gunter's shelter car behavior and welfare class develop skills by working directly with shelter cats to build confidence, reduce stress, and prepare them for adoption.

The “Tabby Duo” had a “Mommy and Me” day today! You do not often see cats playing with toys when dropped off at the vet! The benefits of pre-meds, in their case Gabapentin, are a huge help. Finn was sleepy and chill but Tonka was relaxed, active, playful and foraging!

Ask your vet for a pre-med cocktail for your cat’s next visit! It makes a huge difference.
