This one’s personal, y’all. Finn Maxwell—Colleyville Heritage grad, now a student at the University of Arkansas—has been fighting a rare cancer with everything he’s got: 39 rounds of chemo, 28 radiation treatments, and emergency spinal surgery.

But now the chemo’s stopped working. The cancer is spreading. And Finn is coming home.

So the community is doing what Texas does best—showing up with love & kindness.
Tomorrow, Saturday May 10th at noon, we’re throwing a surprise Christmas celebration for Finn and his family.
Wear your most festive Christmas gear and join a mob of carolers at:

5113 Auburndale Ave in Colleyville
Caroling starts right at 12 and will last about 15 minutes.
Bring a card if you’d like, and come help us wrap this incredible young man and his family in the kind of love that only a town like Colleyville can give.

Because this is TEXAS—this is the

Luka, you may have been born in Slovenia, but Texas became your home. You gave everything to this city—carrying the Mavs on your back, night after night, with a fire and passion that made you one of us. You are Dallas. The heart. The soul. The fighter who never quit, who made us believe, who gave us moments we’ll never forget.

Usually, people are moving from California to Texas—not the other way around. But no matter where you go, you’ll always be a Texan. We love you. We miss you already. And the AAC will never feel the same without you.

Thank you for everything, Luka.

Last night, I celebrated my birthday at hibachi for the first time since I was a kid. We sat with Mo, his wife Miesha (who was also celebrating her birthday!), and their son Treyvon. They’re from Lancaster, Texas, and over a couple of hours, we had the best time talking, laughing, and getting to know them.

As dinner wrapped up, the waitress dropped off our check. We looked at it, and something was clearly off—it said we owed $0. Turns out, our newfound friends, Mo and Miesha, had secretly picked up the tab to celebrate our birthdays together.

I want to say I couldn’t believe it, but honestly, I could—because we’re in Texas. This is just how people in the Lone Star State: friendly, kind, and always going above and beyond. It’s the Texas way, and it’s why I’m proud to call this place home. Thank you, Mo and Miesha, for a blessed
birthday memory I’ll never forget.

Texans helping Texans isn’t just a saying—it’s who we are. Fahim moved here from Afghanistan 2 ½ years ago, seeking opportunity, safety, and the chance to build a life. Now, it’s our turn to help him find a job and show what community truly means. He’s ready to work hard and give back, and we know there’s someone out there who can make a difference.

This season, we’re reminded of all we have to be grateful for—and helping Fahim is one more way to spread that gratitude. Let’s show the world what Texas-sized kindness looks like. ❤️
