What happens during the 1–3 days producers wait for HPAI test results? A lot.

This week’s Eggheads episode explores how faster on-farm testing could completely change outbreak response from containment speed to the future possibility of partial depopulation.

The comparison between “45 minutes” and “3 days” really puts the challenge into perspective.

Our episode with Erik Tyrell-Knott of Alveo Technologies drops tomorrow, May 15th!

When a producer suspects HPAI, every hour matters. But today, confirmation can take 1–3 days, sometimes longer.

During that waiting period, producers may be making major decisions around:
• Ventilation
• Employee safety
• Feed trucks
• Farm movement
• Depopulation planning

This week on Eggheads, we’re talking with Erik Tyrrell-Knott of Alveo about a handheld testing device that could deliver an accurate result in about 44 minutes and what that could mean for the future of outbreak response.

Episode drops Friday.

Here’s to the moms who made the breakfasts, packed the lunches, and brought everyone together.

Happy Mother’s Day 💛

🥚 MYTH: A blood spot means the egg is fertilized.
✅ FACT: Blood spots are completely natural and are usually caused by a tiny blood vessel breaking during the egg formation process.

They’re rare, harmless, and actually a sign that the egg is fresh! Most store-bought eggs are not fertilized so no surprise chick visitors here 😄

National Egg Month feels like the perfect time to crack a few egg myths… What’s the most surprising egg fact you’ve learned?
