▪️What was the first song you learned how to play?

“Brain Stew” by Green Day. Separating my right hand and right foot seemed impossible at the time.

▪️What has been your favorite tech moment so far?

Loading out of a festival in Rio de Janeiro in the wee hours of the morning catching the sunrise over the beach next to Sugarloaf Mountain. We didn’t get to sleep before heading to the airport for the next show but that was pretty memorable.

▪️What is the best piece of advice you've received?

Be a good hang.

▪️What was your favorite show that you've teched?

We did a festival with Dr. Dog and The Flaming Lips in Taos, New Mexico on my birthday one year. So many things went wrong for our set but it was a great time.

▪️What piece of gear that Avatar owns do you wish you had at home?

Symphony of Destruction by Megadeth and Sad but True by Metallica.

▪️What is one thing you want to learn to do better in regards to teching?

I want to learn to get better at swapping pickups and filing guitar frets

▪️What was your favorite show that you've teched?

This year’s Sweetwater anniversary party

▪️What is your favorite style (festival, small gig, corporate) of gig to tech?

I feel like I excel at small gigs since I go to local shows the most

▪️What piece of gear that Avatar owns do you wish you had at home?

I already one a couple 5150’s, but a Mesa Boogie 2 Channel Dual Rectifier would be sweet to have, as well as a Marshall JCM800 2203

▪️What was the first song you learned how to play?

I started playing clarinet when I was 11, so I don’t remember exactly, but it was probably something silly like Hot Cross Buns.

▪️What has been your favorite show moment so far?

First one that jumps to mind would be watching Tenacious D from backstage at Shaky Knees a few years ago. It was my first year working festivals and sort of a “How did I even get here?” moment.

▪️What is one thing you want to learn to do better in regards to teching?

Even in my role, I think it’s very important to know the gear and how it works. So I want to keep spending time in the shop and around the gear so I’m more familiar with it.

▪️What is the best piece of advice you've received?

Listen to what people say, not how they say it. We do quite a bit of in-the-moment problem solving and things can get sort of heated. It’s important to keep focused on the task and not take things personally.

▪️What is your favorite style (festival, small gig, corporate) of gig to advance?

I love working on festivals. There’s a lot that goes on to put them together, but it’s really rewarding to see the end result

Under the influence(r-s) in Miami!
For our part in this year's Super Bowl festivities, Avatar was there at Budweiser's BudX Hotel. For the BudX Hotel, which opened Friday and ran through Sunday, the brand invited influencers from 20 countries across art, fashion, lifestyle and music. Each influencer was required to have around 1 million followers.
