Meet OrthoSense. 👋

Founded by Stefano Pires Benetti of School of Materials Science & Engineering at Georgia Tech, OrthoSense leverages AI to flag early joint-replacement problems from routine X-rays. The program also enriches case-based training for doctors and medical trainees. 🩺

In May, Benetti pitched OrthoSense and gave live projects demos to attendees of the Georgia Tech CREATE-X Spring Startup Launch Showcase. The event was a front row view into the early-stage startups coming out of Georgia Tech.

🌊 200 miles from Tech Square, Georgia Tech researchers are helping coastal Georgia communities read the water, plan for it, and push back.

Dr. Jill Gambill runs the Coastal Equity and Resilience Hub (CEAR Hub) out of Savannah, but a lot of the tech behind it starts right here in Atlanta. Case in point: a portable sand table developed at TSRB and built by IPaT researchers like Tim Trent and Noah Posner. Kids sculpt their own landscape, the team pours in real sea level rise data, and everyone watches where the water goes. Then they set down a marsh, a dune, or a house on stilts and see the flooding change.

🌱 That last part is the whole point. As Gambill puts it, "We want to give them solutions, and we want them to feel like they can be proactive."

Forty percent of U.S. adults now attend religious services in person, online, or both at least once a month. Ninety-one percent own a smartphone. The way people show up to their communities has changed, and faith organizations are figuring out what that means in real time.

Jamshed Patel, CTO at Ministry Brands, wrote for us on the shift. His argument: the best technology doesn't try to replace the human center of a community. It just makes each connection easier to keep, so leaders can spend less time tracking people and more time serving them.

Meet Spinna. 👋

Founded by James Lemke, of George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering, Spinna is an AI operating system for watch dealers. The platform allows luxury watch dealers to manage inventory, broadcast to buyers, and track P&L all in one place. ⌚

Spinna was one of many teams to participate in the Georgia Tech CREATE-X Spring Startup Launch Showcase back in May. The event allowed founders to pitch their projects, and attendees to interact directly with founders and live product demos.

Two weeks ago, Tech Square helped close out Atlanta Tech Week with Midtown Day, and we're still thinking about it.

A full day up and down Fifth Street: the Tech Square Tech Hop turning the corridor into a block party, panels on everything from women shaping tech right now to the two very different paths of technical and nontechnical founders, ice cream in the courtyard, and comedy from Standups & Startups to send the week off loud.
