Earlier this summer, we asked our Campuswink Guides one simple question:
“What surprised you most about college?”
And the #1 answer…by a LONG shot…
⏰ THE AMOUNT OF UNSTRUCTURED TIME!
In high school, your entire day is planned for you. In college, you might have only two classes that day…and suddenly, the rest of those hours are yours to fill.
Studying. Working out. Joining clubs. Getting involved. Meeting people. Or figuring out how NOT to spend four hours scrolling in your dorm room. 😂
Going into college knowing that this is normal, and learning how to structure that time, can make the transition so much easier.
The next biggest surprises?
💸 #2: The reality of having a budget.
Little expenses add up FAST. Especially food and DoorDash. 👀
👋 #3: You have to put in the effort to find your people.
Your friends probably aren’t just going to find you. But remember: everyone is in the same boat. Join something. Say hi to the person next to you in class. Start the group chat. Be the one who makes the first move.
And an honorable mention that came up again and again:
👩🏫 Get to know your professors.
Yes, it actually matters! Introduce yourself. Go to office hours. Ask questions. Build those relationships.
Sometimes the most helpful college advice isn’t about what to pack or which dorm to choose.
It’s knowing what college life is actually going to feel like before you get there.
And who better to tell you than the students already living it? 🧡
Real students. Real experiences. Real advice.
