We are pleased to announce our partnership with the highly influential visual artist, Nelson Makamo for our Café Citizen experience at the iconic Rubell Museum.

Johannesburg-based Nelson Makamo uses his art to give a voice to the children of his birthplace. Nelson Makamo’s striking close-up portraits of children encapsulate the vibrancy of the youth in his home country of South Africa. He is known for using a variety of expressive mediums such as acrylic, watercolour, print, and charcoal drawings to capture emotive portraits that show the beauty and duality of his subjects.

Our Café Citizen session with Nelson Makamo is a guided look into the emotional, technical, and spiritual layers behind his work — a chance to witness the mind and method of a true cultural original.
