Atwood Music Co. Friendly small-town recording studio. Just 25 miles east of Decatur on Rt. 36 and a half-hour from Mattoon on I-57.

Located in downtown Atwood, Ill, just 8 miles west of I-57 (Tuscola Exit) if you're coming from Champaign-Urbana, Chicago or Nashville. We're not in the middle of nowhere, just a short distance from anywhere.

I haven't made a post on this page forever, but wanted to take a moment to say Merry Christmas (or whatever holiday greeting applies) to all of those who follow it, and express sincere thanks to those who created music at the studio this year. We made some good records in 2017, and I got to meet and work with a lot of cool musicians, songwriters and others involved in the music biz. Peace and love to all. -- Nate

It's a happy time here. Singer-songwriter Barbara Chumbley is putting the final touches on her debut album (release date will be announced soon); regional rockers Jane Doe are beginning a recording project at AMC next week; one of our favorite label mates is hard at work composing a new album in Chicago; and my own long-delayed album will be completed within the next few weeks, followed by a Winter Tour. It's hard to believe it's been almost 10 years since the 2nd Atwood Piano drop, and 20 years since the first one. So, the 3rd, 10-year drop shall occur under the full moon of November 2017. We are now soliciting the donation of a beat, upright piano as our 3rd victim. Only those that are completely beyond repair (water damaged, warped, etc.) will be considered. The remains will be treated with utmost respect. Previous victims have been repurposed into signs, table legs, and other projects. Please send PM or comment if you have one to donate. It's early to begin planning, but we have something very special lined up this time, and have recruited professional engineers to help us determine how best to elicit the greatest sustain when dropped, and, of course, recorded with expensive German microphones. Hope to see you there in November.

After sitting outside the door of my studio for nearly 20 years, some lick has finally skitched my old-timey, stand-up ashtray. I gave up cigs quite a while back, but many of my clients still use it when they go out for a smoke break. It has saved a lot of butt litter on the ground over the years. If the thief will return it, I promised to kick him in the teeth only once.

For several reasons, my flat-rate-per-song experiment did not work out. However, my hourly rates are still very reasonable. (Like eggs, they're cheaper in the country.) Please contact me via pm. I no longer answer my business line or check voice mail because I am overwhelmed with nuisance solicitors of products and services that I have no interest in. The only reason I keep it is for the high-speed internet connection.
