The Pearl-bordered Fritillary is Britain’s second most threatened butterfly, having declined by -95% since the 70s. We are working to save this species from extinction, including in the regional stronghold of Morecambe Bay with our Woodlands project. However, we are facing a funding shortfall. Please donate to help us save this species https://butrfli.es/3nVwMD2

Over 97% of wildflower meadows have been lost since the 1930s. The loss of meadows is more than just the loss of pretty flowers though – they are unrivalled havens for wildlife.

You don’t need acres to make your own meadow – you can make a mini one with under a metre of space! Get our free guide to learn what to plant https://butrfli.es/3dELI3J

Peat Compost will be Banned! 🎉

We're pleased to hear today that the sale of peat compost will be banned from 2024! Today, Environment Secretary George Eustice announces a new consultation, to be held by the end of the year, on banning composts made of peat. 🙌

One of the biggest threats facing certain butterflies and moths is the destruction of the peat bogs where they live. Every year three billion litres of peat are used to make garden compost in the UK alone. The extraction of this peat destroys precious habitats where insects and wildflowers thrive. 🌸

One example of this is the caterpillar of the Large Heath (pictured), which foodplants only grow on bogs.

Going peat-free saves wildlife! 🐛
