Saturday, October 10th, the Iron Horse Music Festival rolls into Historic Downtown Colfax. That means blues, roots, and Americana from 1 to 9pm at Art Park, 20 South Main Street.

Here's who's on the stage:

🎸 1:30 PM – The Rail Benders: Alan Dillingham, Sean Feder, Brett Cole, and Bob Woods kick things off
🎸 3:00 PM – Pinkie Rideau: a Blues Hall of Famer, right here in Colfax
🎸 5:00 PM – Bob Woods Trio: How perfect is this? Bob has been a steam locomotive engineer for decades. A real railroad man playing the Iron Horse.
🎸 7:00 PM – Achilles Wheel Trio: Paul Kamm, Jonny Mojo, and Shelby Snow closing out the night with Americana and roots
🚂 9:00 PM – Last whistle... Unless people are still dancing!

How we got here:
Last year the Historic Colfax Downtown Association applied for a national Levitt AMP grant. We made the top 100. Then you all showed up to vote in the public voting round, and that got us into the national top 50. We beat out cities 100 times our size to get there.

We'd never seen our little town light up like that. Everybody got behind the music, and somewhere in that moment the community started believing Colfax could become something more. That feeling became the momentum behind everything the downtown association is doing now.

We didn't win the big one. So we started the Live in Colfax Concert Series anyway, with $500 and a lot of grit. It turned into something bigger than we ever imagined.

The Levitt Family Foundation kept believing in this little railroad town. We applied for a festival grant and won, and that's the reason Iron Horse exists. This is their second time backing music in Colfax, and we are so grateful.

That's kind of how we do things here. Say yes, then figure it out.

This is what the weather looks like.

****Heating (WAY) Up****

Today will be the coolest day of the week (and longer) as remanent cool air remains in the wake of the trough that brought widespread rain to Oregon and Washington and quite a few clouds over Northern California. But now it’s time for a new scenario as the upper-level weather pattern makes a dramatic change.

A strong dome of high pressure will build over the northern interior of the western U.S. bringing an early October heatwave to a broad area, including California over the next 7+ days. High temperatures could reach into the 90s by the weekend which would be 10+ degrees above average (the average high temperature for Grass Vallet this time of year is in the upper 70s). Now you know why I wasn’t too concerned about “covering the woodpile” during the recent early-season rains…..!

Highs today will be in the mid 70s. If you don’t like late-season heat – enjoy the weather today! It heats up noticeably tomorrow and Wednesday with highs in the mid 80s. Upper 80s Thursday/Friday. Hottest temperatures look to be over the weekend with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. Overnight lows will generally be in the upper 50s during the period.

A few forecast models are hinting at mid 90s over the weekend, but we will get a better sense of just how hot it will be as it gets closer.
