On May 19th, voters across the state will be going to the polls to vote on school budgets, for Auburn that is a proposed nearly $112 million budget.

The proposed budget does seek a 2.43% tax levy increase – matching the state mandated tax cap.

Voters can vote at the Junior High and Casey Park, Owasco and Seward schools.

05/05/26 - Inside Government - City Budget Update

The City of Auburn is in the final six weeks of its process to adopt a budget for 2026-2027, that would be effective on July 1st and it has been heated with City taxpayers and City employees frustrated by the City’s current budget predicament.

The City faces a $5 million budget gap between revenues and expenses. Among the scenarios the Mayor and Council face is increasing the Tax Levy by 28% or cutting more than 50 positions or a combination of both.

City Manager Jennifer Haines and City Comptroller Mary Beth Leeson will be present their budget to the Mayor and Council this week and slate on the agenda is a resolution to discuss over riding the State tax cap on May 28th.

We have asked them both in today to discuss the budget process and what they may recommend.

05/05/26 - Inside Government - AECSD Budget Update

On Tuesday May 19th, voters across New York State get to go to the polls to not only vote for members to their local school boards, but also vote on their budgets.

With the New York State Budget more than a month late beyond its April 1st deadline, school districts are waiting to figure out what they will get from Albany, before going to voters next month.

What we do know is that voters in the Auburn District will chime in, State Budget or no State Budget in two weeks as to whether they want to pass a roughly $112 million budget.

The proposed budget does seek a 2.43% tax levy increase – the state mandated tax cap. It uses $1.25 million in Fund Balance and has a combination of additions and reductions.

To explain the budget and also give us a District Update, we have back in the studio Auburn Superintendent of Schools Dr. Misty Slavic and Business Manager Tessa Crawford.

Jacob Soltero, a member of Cayuga Community College’s Class of 2026, who is graduating summa cm laude in May, was recognized for his academic and leadership achievements this week when he received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence (CASE).

The award is the highest academic and leadership distinction for SUNY students, recognizing them for their success and commitment in diverse categories, including academics, campus involvement, civics and service, and more.

Throughout his time at Cayuga, Soltero has excelled academically while also immersing himself in student life opportunities through the College’s Media Arts programs. This spring he’s graduating with an Associate in Applied Science in Media Arts: Audio Production.

He has served as the president of the Radio and Television Guild and of Cayuga Records, the student-led production company at the college. Soltero also assisted in the production of “Beyond the Front Page with Guy Cosentino” and “Inside Government with Guy Cosentino,” two public affairs programs produced by Cayuga students, staff and faculty.

Soltero also provided technical support for Harlequin Productions, Cayuga student-theatre group, and helped produce weekly high school football broadcasts aired on Spectrum News.

“I’ve had a great experience at Cayuga learning from my classmates and faculty like (Media & Telecommunications Director) Laura Bailey. They’re very genuine people who pushed me to be the best version of myself and helped me realize what I wanted to do in my life. My experience here, especially the hands-on learning, will genuinely help me in my next steps,” said Soltero.

This fall, Soltero is transferring to SUNY Oswego to continue studying media and broadcasting.
