A new film at Donner Memorial State Park retells the harrowing Donner Party story. The updated 26‑minute visitor center film, produced by Anna Lee-Poli of OwlEye Media, replaces a decades‑old production that contained historical inaccuracies.

In case you missed it, we revisited the pre-2000s George of the Jungle flick on our blog. The amount of work that went into the American River scene still seems impressive today.

According to an Auburn Journal article, “Disney workers covered the inside of the Tunnel Chute with vines, built an extra tunnel and created a waterfall.” The American River location provided the perfect rapids to portray urgency as the film’s hero was chased to the waterfall.
