In August, four members of the Clover, South Carolina Police Department stopped at Chick-fil-A on Robert C. Daniel Junior Parkway for breakfast.

One officer, who is black, said his three white colleagues were given their food for free, while he was asked to pay. Now he is speaking out.

“When we arrived at the place, we went inside. It was only four people in line. It was myself and three other white sergeants. We were all sergeants. We were all dressed the same. We all got in the same line and we all ordered the food. I was the last one to place my order,” explained Sergeant Tracy Reid.

Sgt. Reid said he and his fellow officers were on their way to Cordell, GA to pick up several police vehicles when they stopped in Augusta to eat. He added that they were the only four people in the restaurant at the time.

He told NewsChannel 6 the other officers had their orders taken by a female cashier who was training a new employee. When it was his turn, a male team lead from the back of the house stepped in to take his order.

North Carolina Republican lawmakers announced plans to redraw their state's congressional map, part of a nationwide redistricting effort aimed at shoring up the party's narrow majority in the U.S. House ahead of next year's midterm elections.

• Under North Carolina's current map, Republicans control 10 House seats to Democrats' four. To give Republicans another seat, the GOP-controlled Legislature could split another Democratic-leaning city between surrounding areas.

Trump confirms shutdown firings, says they will be 'Democrat-oriented'
President Donald Trump confirmed mass firings of federal workers began Friday amid the government shutdown and said the layoffs would be "Democrat-oriented."

Earlier, White House Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought said in a social media post "The RIFs have begun," referring to reductions-in-force.

Speaking to reporters from the Oval Office on Friday, Trump did not specify which agencies were laying off workers or the exact number of layoffs but said it would be "a lot."

Trump continued to lay blame for the shutdown on Democrats in Congress.

"They started this thing so it [layoffs] should be Democrat-oriented," Trump said.

WASHINGTON — When National Guard troops were deployed here earlier this month, President Donald Trump promised that they would fight crime and make the streets safe again. But in neighborhoods like Columbia Heights, the takeover has created a real sense of terror for immigrants, who say they feel like they are being racially targeted and living in a dystopian version of the city they love.
