Local family experiences White House Easter Egg Roll
It was the Easter egg hunt of a lifetime for the Dane and Sara Sutherland family of Aurora over the long Easter weekend. The Sutherlands, along with their four children and her parents, traveled to Washington, D.C. where they had an opportunity to participate in the annual Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn of the White House. The whirlwind weekend trip also included a tour of the nation’s capital and the opportunity to witness two emotional ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Mother's Day is coming soon, on Sunday, May 11. We here at ANR are hoping you are planning to remember and honor your mom in a special way on her day.
One way you could do that is by sharing a special memory about your mom with us and the community. We're asking you to write something memorable about your mother as a comment below. Then we'll pick a few of our favorites and publish them in a special article in our May 7th edition just in time for Mother's Day.

Here are some ideas to get you started:
*Did your mom have a special talent or ability that brought joy into your home, such as cooking, music, encouragement or hospitality?
*Share a favorite memory of your mom. This could include a moment that was touching, humorous or especially meaningful.
*Did your mom have any "super powers?" (For instance, one of our staff members here at ANR had a mom with a nose that could smell to***co burning from 10 miles away, downwind in a blizzard, if you know what we mean. 😉)
*Did your mom have a favorite wise saying, poem or scripture verse? Share that with us.
Whatever the memory, whether poignant or funny, share it here, and then watch for it in our May 7 edition.

Strobe Alley Reimagined exhibit to shine May 1
The Edgerton Explorit Center in Aurora is inviting the community to its celebration of Strobe Alley Reimagined Thursday night from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
Since its establishment in 1995, the Edgerton exhibit has illuminated the work of Harold “Doc” Edgerton, a scientist, researcher, photographer and the museum’s namesake.
“We want everybody to realize what a great man he was,” said Mary Molliconi, executive director. “It’s a living legacy, and to have the family be proud of what the center represents is our responsibility to make that a great place.”

AHS students among first to receive new vet scholarships
Two Aurora seniors have a running start toward their goal of becoming veterinarians as recipients of this year’s Nebraska Elite 11 Veterinarian Program scholarships.
Emma Ellis-Sack and Kash Majerus both have a passion for animals and have expressed interest in the veterinary field, which prompted them to apply for a new scholarship program supported by Gov. Jim Pillen. As a veterinarian himself, Pillen understands the need for young people to enter the field, especially in rural areas of Nebraska.

Nunnenkamp to build 4 new town homes
Prep work has begun on a 12th Street site which will soon be home to a four dwelling unit town home expected to help diversify the community’s rental properties.
Casey Nunnenkamp purchased side by side lots a block and a half north of the downtown square recently and is excited to begin construction on the new Kamp Subdivision.
“Technically it’s going up as one structure, but they’ve got two-hour firewall separation so they’re each considered their own structure,” he explained. “It will kind of look like single-family houses going up, but it’s designed in a strip housing style.”
