I am a mixed-media artist living in Aurora, Colorado. When I began my art career over 25 years ago, I worked in a realistic style in watercolor and oils. Eventually, my work evolved into a more abstract style and led to my work with textures, collages, and fluid acrylic paints. I am a certified Art Educator with Golden Paints. I have taught thousands of artists in workshops around the United States for over 20 years. To expand learning opportunities for students to learn my techniques, I established Carol Nelson Mixed Media Art School at Teachable.com, where students can purchase my online video workshops, some of which are paid, and others are free. "Stepping Out"
The complete title of this painting is Stepping Out of my Comfort Zone. It's quite far removed from my usual style, but I really had fun painting intuitively.

"Billboard 8"
This painting is part of a series based on my concept of tattered billboards having remnants of previous images blowing in the wind.

Collage is one of my favorite things to do in the studio. All the papers used in this painting were created or altered by the artist.

"Badlands 2"
This geologic abstract suggests a desert or arid landscape with small trickles of water. The canvas surface is heavily textured in many areas. I love finishing paintings with line details as seen here.

Workshop opportunities

I love sharing my knowledge of painting and creating. Over the years, I have taught thousands of students the basic principles of abstract mixed media work, as well as the methods and techniques I use in my work.

I offer both large workshops at various venues across the country, and small group (maximum of 6) workshops in my Colorado studio. See my website for the latest in my workshop schedule: https://www.carolnelsonfineart.com/workshops
