A large group of students from schools in Rockdale and Newton counties gathered in a park on Wednesday for Senior Skip Day when gunshots rang out.
Justin Etienne, an 18-year-old student from Salem High School, was shot in the park and taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries .
Investigators have not released the suspect’s identity, but believe it was an isolated incident and there is no danger to the community.
No one has been taken into custody.
NewsChopper 2 flew over the park and saw a large section of it blocked off with police tape and evidence markers scattered around the park.
The sheriff’s office told Channel 2′s Tom Regan they aren’t sure how many shots were fired in the park. Investigators are asking anyone who was in the park and witnessed the shooting to call them at 678-625-1589 or 678-625-1419.

The Brief

💥A DeKalb County father and his girlfriend will spend decades behind bars after beating the man’s 5-year-old daughter to death after she didn’t want to help clean up their house.
💥Prosecutors say Cedric O’Neal Herring tried to claim that his daughter’s wounds were from a multi-car accident.
💥Last week, the 28-year-old entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to 50 years with 30 in prison. A DeKalb County father and his girlfriend have been convicted of the death of the man’s 5-year-old daughter.

On Wednesday, 28-year-old Unchinna Myrick pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and two first-degree counts of cruelty to children in connection with the 2021 death of Janiyah Herring.

The guilty plea comes months after a DeKalb County jury found 30-year-old Cedric O’Neal Herring guilty of murdering his little girl.

The backstory:
Prosecutors say on May 29, 2021, Herring carried his daughter into Emory Decatur Hospital’s emergency room.

The man told the nurse on duty that they had been in a multi-vehicle car accident and that his daughter had not woken up after she was knocked out in the crash.

After noticing the girl was not breathing, the nurse rushed her in for treatment. Despite doctors’ efforts, the 5-year-old girl died at the hospital.

Following the girl’s death, a doctor examined her body and discovered that she had bruises and wounds that appeared to be consistent with child abuse. The hospital notified the DeKalb County Police Department, the Division of Family and Children Services, and the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the agencies began an investigation.

After interviewing Herring, officials say the details about the crash he provided didn’t seem to be connected to any recorded accident. During the session, they say he “admitted that he sometimes used a belt to hit his children when they misbehaved.”

Dig deeper:
Janiyah’s siblings told investigators that the girl had refused to help clean the house earlier that day and that Myrick, Herring’s girlfriend, had whipped her with a cord. When the girl tried to get away, the children said Myrick tied her to a bed and beat her.

Kenya Latrice Smith, 48, of Powder Springs, is accused of operating a black Lincoln Ls at approximately 50 mph and pushing a woman out of the moving vehicle on March 8 at 9:25 p.m. at the intersection of Dallas Highway and Casteel Road in Marietta, according to an arrest warrant from the Cobb County Police Department.

Smith and the victim began arguing for unknown reasons and Smith began striking the victim while driving. The victim opened her passenger door slightly and requested Smith to stop and let her out. Smith hit the victim again and pushed her into the unlatched door, causing the victim to fall out onto the asphalt, according to the warrant.

The victim sustained several “road-rash” injuries to her face and extremities. There was a large amount of blood from her nose. The victim’s upper lip was extremely swollen and her mouth was caked with blood. Large portions of skin were missing from the palms of her hands. She also had a severe road-rash injury to her right cheek. Many of the wounds were believed to result in permanent, visible scar tissue, according to the warrant.

Sean “Diddy” Combs appeared confident he’ll be released from jail as he spoke to Kanye West on the phone from behind bars.

In video footage of West’s call with Combs obtained by The Shade Room on Monday, March 17, the Bad Boy Records founder could be heard giving advice to the “I Wonder” rapper while locked up on racketeering, s— trafficking and prostitution-related charges. “You be careful out there ‘cause they definitely trying to end us,” the imprisoned music mogul warned West — who has been on yet another antisemitic and misogynistic social media spree in recent days.

Appearing optimistic he’ll be found not guilty during his upcoming May trial, Combs declared: “They can’t do it and they ain’t gonna do it. I’m going to beat this s— and get next to you.”

Elsewhere during the controversial rappers’ phone conversation, Combs informed West , “I’ll tell you the real from the front line. This s— is wicked, wicked, wicked, so you be careful.”

The “I’ll Be Missing You” hitmaker additionally advised West to try to “have some f—— fun” and to “f— [these] other motherf——“ who are “wasting” his time. “When I get out there man I want to see you f-—— tear down the stadiums,” Combs encouraged West. “I need to see you back on that stage, f—— actually rapping and f—— performing and everything. I be dreaming of that s—.”

The “I Need a Girl” rapper told West the duo has “years and decades to fight these motherf——.”Acknowledging Combs’ suggestion, West admitted, “Yeah, it’s time for me to just grab the mic and get back on. It’s like I love music again.”

At another point in their call, Combs thanked West for being there for his seven children while their dad is stuck in prison.

Francisco Javier Garcia Casique, one of the hundreds of Venezuelans deported by the Donald Trump administration over the weekend, has no criminal record in either the United States or his country of origin, his family has insisted.

Casique, 24, was reportedly among the 238 people believed to have connections with the notorious Tren de Aragua criminal gang that were taken to El Salvador as part of an agreement between Trump and the country’s president Nayib Bukele on Saturday.

The deportees were removed despite U.S. District Court Judge James Boasberg disputing the invocation of the wartime Alien Enemies Act 1798 as the basis for the administration’s actions and ordering that the planes delivering them be turned around. On Monday, Judge Boasberg demanded answers as to why the flights had gone ahead in defiance of his order while Trump’s allies, including Attorney General Pam Bondi , Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and his White House advisers Alina Habba and Stephen Miller hit the airwaves to rebuke the justice for overstepping his authority in challenging an executive order from the president.

Trump himself angrily lashed out at Boasberg on his Truth Social platform on Tuesday morning, calling him a “radical left lunatic” and demanding his impeachment.

While the legal battle rumbles on, Casique, a barber by trade, finds himself incarcerated in the maximum security CECOT mega-prison in Central America with no record of his case visible on the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) website, according to his distraught mother Mirelis Casique, who says his rights are being violated.

Ms Casique, who has taken to TikTok to draw attention to her son’s plight, told The New York Times she had recognized him by his tattoos, his ears and his general stature in news photographs of the newly-arrived inmates and said she felt “broken at the injustice” of what had taken place.

She explained that her son had entered the United States in December 2023 seeking asylum, having previously spent six years in Peru cutting hair and shaving customers to support the family – a skill he taught himself by watching YouTube videos, his brother Sebastian told El Estimulo .

The Brief

💥A search warrant ex*****on at a Cobb County home led to an hours-long standoff involving a large law enforcement presence.
💥The SWAT team arrived with lights and sirens, surrounding the home and impacting traffic on Windy Hill Road.
💥The target of the search was not found in the house, and police cleared the scene as night fell. The ex*****on of a search warrant on a Cobb County home turned into an hours-long standoff.

A large law enforcement presence was seen along Windy Hill Road on Monday afternoon and lasted well into the evening.

What we know:
The officers were focused on a home near the corner of Favors Road SW.

According to the Cobb County Police Department, a search warrant was being served at the home at around 4 p.m. on Monday.

Late Monday afternoon, the SWAT team rolled in with lights flashing and sirens blaring. Cobb County police offices were posted outside a home on Favor Road with guns drawn.

SKYFOX 5 flew over the scene around 4:30 p.m. and found law enforcement officers surrounding the home, impacting one lane of westbound traffic.
As darkness fell police determined, whoever they were looking for was not in the house and cleared out. What they’re saying:
“I thought this was a movie set but this is real life,” said Alin Pierie, who was driving by and saw all the police vehicles.

The sound of a flash bang tossed toward the house started neighbors. “It made me nervous. You can hear it literally 5 minutes up the way, it was that loud,” said Tene Bradley, who lives nearby.

Many who live in the area came outside to see what was happening. “We started hearing all the sirens and stuff we don’t really know,” said Anthony Blalock.

“It’s crazy, blocked up the street, got us all on hold just out here trying to figure out what’s going on,” said Tene Bradley.

“I hope everything is OK, because I really thought this was a movie, this is unreal especially for this town, it’s a good neighborhood,” said Pierie.

What we don’t know:
It was not clear why officers were targeting the home.

• A Chicago landlord was ordered by an Illinois circuit court judge to pay $80,000 to former tenants after threatening to call U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on them during a verbal dispute in June 2020. The ruling marks the first judgment under Illinois’ 2019 Immigrant Tenant Protection Act, which prohibits landlords from using threats of immigration enforcement against tenants. The case stemmed from a rent dispute where the landlord, Marco Contreras, demanded full payment for July rent despite the tenants’ plan to move out, leading to the threat. The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) represented the tenants, emphasizing that the law protects all tenants, regardless of immigration status, from such intimidation. The decision is seen as a significant victory for tenant rights in Illinois. (📸: )

Teyana Taylor has addressed a report alleging that she demanded Iman Shumpert receive jail time for allegedly leaking their divorce documents.Teyana Taylor Addresses Reported Alleging She Demanded Jail Time For Iman Shumpert Allegedly Leaking Their Divorce Documents

On Monday, March 18, TMZ published an exclusive report asserting that Taylor allegedly believes Shumpert “deliberately leaked sealed documents about their divorce to the media.”

Furthermore, the outlet’s report asserted that Taylor doesn’t believe their divorce terms constitute as a settlement because “the parties only got what was awarded by the court … including vehicles and a tour bus, which she says she paid for on her own.”

Per the outlet, Taylor also confirmed that she was awarded four properties while Shumpert was awarded three. However, she noted that one of the three properties he received was a Miami condo that he originally gifted to her. Therefore, she believes the chatter about her and Iman Shumpert’s divorce “settlement” appearing unfair to the public is a falsity. Furthermore, she also believes it has subjected her to “public scrutiny and hate speech… all the while Iman enjoyed having his name be a trending topic.”

Lastly, the report asserted that Taylor believes Shumpert leaked their divorce terms to help promote his rap efforts. Furthermore, it also stated that she reportedly asked a judge to hold her ex-husband in contempt of court and place him behind bars for 20 days with maximum fines.Social Media Weighs IN

Social media users weighed in on Teyana Taylor reportedly demanding jail time for Iman Shumpert in The Shade Room’s comment section .

Instagram user wrote, “ Damn, you know she hate you when she want you in jail ” While Instagram user added, “ Jail time that’s a bit extreme”
Instagram user wrote, “ Jail time is wild when he’s the father of both of your children.

Michelle Obama feared her daughters would make it into The New York Post’s gossip column when they lived in the White House during Barack Obama’s presidency.

“I wanted to give my girls enough rope to live and be normal teenagers, but I was also worrying about them turning up on Page Six because they were doing what normal kids would do,” the former first lady admitted on the “Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce” podcast Thursday.

Malia Obama and Sasha Obama were only 10 and 7 years old, respectively, when their father was elected president of the United States in 2008.

However, because Barack served two terms, the girls were under a microscope until ages 18 and 15.Michelle, 61, said on “Not Gonna Lie” that her daughters’ experience in the White House was different than other former first children because of the added pressure of social media and having “cameras everywhere.”

“We’d have to build a real community of trust around them because I didn’t want them sitting home on Saturday night not understanding what it was like to be out and have a life before they went to college,” she explained to host Kylie Kelce.

Michelle said she almost thought it would have been easier if Malia and Sasha were younger when their dad was president so that she would only have to worry about them coloring on the walls.

Michelle Obama reveals nightly dispute with Barack in candid marriage talk: ‘He just doesn’t understand’

However, because they were teens, the “Becoming” author said she would be concerned with things like prom, teaching them to drive and wondering whether there would be alcohol at a party they were going to.

Convicted fentanyl dealer seen sobbing as she’s nabbed by ICE after illegally re-entering US…..A Dominican drug dealer previously deported for peddling fentanyl was seen breaking down in tears as she was arrested while illegally back in the US.

Virginia Basora-Gonzalez, 36, was sobbing as agents arrested her in Philadelphia last Wednesday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said .

A US magistrate judge issued a federal warrant for her arrest on the same day a notice of intent to reinstate a final removal order against her was to be served.Canadian ‘American Pie’ actress speaks out after ICE arrest, says she still doesn’t know why she was detained after applying for visa at southern border

She will remain in federal custody pending charges for re-entry after deportation, the feds said.

Photos shared by ICE show the convicted drug dealer crying as she’s being led away in cuffs.

“The apprehension of Virginia Basora-Gonzalez demonstrates our commitment to protecting our communities from criminal aliens who engage in serious illegal activities that pose a threat to public safety,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Philadelphia acting Field Office Director Brian McShane.

Detained Columbia anti-Israel protester Mahmoud Khalil worked at UNRWA, got ‘rigorous security clearance’ as British gov staffer years before protests

“This successful joint operation exemplifies the collaborative efforts of federal law enforcement agencies to enforce our nation’s immigration laws and remove dangerous individuals from our streets.”

The teary-eyed drug dealer was living illegally in the US when the Drug Enforcement Administration first arrested her in Pennsylvania for possessing 40 grams or more of fentanyl and aiding and abetting in June 2019.She pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 12 months, one day of confinement, and four years of supervised release, but was deported by ICE to her home country, the Dominican Republic, in October 2020 before she could serve out her sentence.

Lotto Savage , an affiliate of 21 Savage and a member of the Slaughter Gang collective, has reportedly passed away. DJ Kutthroat, his manager and DJ, confirmed the news in an Instagram post saying, “Dam Lotto .”

While the cause of death has yet to be revealed, the news has sent shockwaves through the hip-hop community.

Lotto Savage emerged on the Atlanta rap scene in 2015, quickly gaining attention for his raw, authentic storytelling about life in the streets—focused on trapping, hustling, and survival. His breakout came with features on 21 Savage’s mixtape Slaughter King , which helped establish him as a rising talent. A Washington, D.C. teenager mysteriously vanished after a police car chase in January. Now, months later, his mother is demanding the truth about what happened, and is accusing authorities of withholding information.

Nyair Raymond, 17, left a family home at around 5 p.m. on January 15 before he became involved in the car chase, according to the Metropolitan Police Department .

Officers reportedly chased down a black Kia Sportage for a traffic violation. When the car finally pulled over, both the driver and the passenger fled on foot, according to police.

The 18-year-old driver of car was arrested at the scene, but the passenger — who is believed to be Raymond — escaped and hasn’t been seen since. Raymond was listed as a missing person three days later.

His mother, Sharnell Ford, was told her son fled from the passenger side of a stolen vehicle during the police chase near the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge, and was last spotted under the bridge.

Three days after Raymond’s disappearance , Ford told Fox5 that her son’s phone was recovered from the area.

His jacket was also recovered a week later, submerged in the Anacostia River — over an hour from where National Missing and Unidentified Persons reported that he was last seen.

A body was s found March 7 in that river, but police have not formally identified the remains, DC News Now reported.

Ford told Fox: “It’s an African American male, about six feet tall. It all fits the criteria of my son.”
