๐Ÿšจ IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR NIGERIA-BASED APPLICANTS ๐Ÿšจ

You may have seen posts circulating about the US Embassy in Abuja shutting down. Here's what we actually know:

โœ… WHAT'S TRUE:
The US Embassy in Abuja has already suspended routine visa appointments (since April 2026) due to security concerns. Additionally, a leaked State Department memo indicates the US plans to cut Africa visa-processing posts from ~50 down to just 20 regional hubs โ€” and Abuja did NOT make the cut. Lagos did.

This means: If you are in Northern or Central Nigeria, you will likely need to travel to Lagos for your visa interview.

โš ๏ธ WHAT'S NOT CONFIRMED:
This has NOT been officially announced as a permanent, total closure. The US Mission has described current restrictions as subject to review.

๐Ÿ“Œ WHAT YOU SHOULD DO NOW:
1๏ธโƒฃ Monitor ng.usembassy.gov for official updates
2๏ธโƒฃ If you have a scheduled Abuja appointment, check your email โ€” you may already have a reschedule notice
3๏ธโƒฃ Start planning for the possibility of traveling to Lagos for your interview
4๏ธโƒฃ Do NOT cancel or abandon your case โ€” just be ready to adapt

Drop your questions below ๐Ÿ‘‡ and share this so your people are not caught off guard.

The mission of the U.S. Embassy is to advance the interests of the United States, and to serve and protect U.S. citizens in Nigeria.

๐Ÿšจ IF YOUR FAMILY VISA WAS DENIED FOR โ€œPUBLIC CHARGEโ€ โ€” READ THIS.

This is one of the most heartbreaking situations I see in our community.

Someone in Africa waits months โ€” sometimes years โ€” for their immigrant visa interview. They dress up. They pray. They go to the embassy full of hope.

Then they get a letter that says:
โ€œYour visa application has been refused.โ€

And somewhere in that letter, you see the words Section 212(a)(4) โ€” also known as the Public Charge ground of inadmissibility.

๐Ÿค” What does โ€œPublic Chargeโ€ even mean?

In plain English, the U.S. government is saying:
โ€œWe believe this person is likely to depend on government financial assistance after entering the U.S.โ€

It is NOT about whether YOU have money.
It is about whether your sponsor in the U.S. has enough income to support you.

๐Ÿ“‹ Hereโ€™s what usually triggers this denial:

โœ… Your petitioner (sponsor) filed a Form I-864 โ€” Affidavit of Support
โŒ BUT their income on their tax return did not meet 125% of the U.S. Federal Poverty Guideline for their household size

Hereโ€™s the part that SHOCKS most people in our community ๐Ÿ‘‡

Many of our people in the U.S. are self-employed or own small businesses.
Their business may be doing well โ€” but after claiming business deductions and expenses, their tax return shows little to zero income.

The consulate does NOT look at your sponsorโ€™s bank account.
They do NOT look at how much money the business made.
They look at the bottom line on the tax return.

So a sponsor making $80,000 a year in revenue could show $0 in net income after expenses โ€” and that triggers a public charge denial.

โš ๏ธ What happens next if you receive this letter?

The letter may mention that you are eligible to apply for a waiver using Form I-601, submitted to USCIS.

I want to be clear โ€” I am not telling you what to do. Every case is different. But I want you to KNOW this option exists so you are not left feeling like itโ€™s completely over.

๐Ÿ’ฌ My honest message to our community:

Before your sponsor files the I-864, please verify their income situation. Self-employment income looks very different on paper than it does in real life.

๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿฝโ€โš–๏ธIf you find yourself in such a predicament, talk to a licensed immigration attorney.

๐Ÿ™ I share this because I know someone in this community is sitting with this exact letter right now and doesnโ€™t know what it means.

You deserve to understand what is happening in your case โ€” in plain language, without confusion.

โš  IMMIGRATION ALERT: Whatโ€™s Coming in June & July 2026 โš ๏ธ

If you or someone you love is navigating the U.S. immigration system โ€” these next few weeks are CRITICAL. Hereโ€™s what to watch ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ MID-TO-LATE JUNE 2026
๐Ÿ” The U.S. government is required to complete its 180-day review of the 39-country travel ban. At that point, countries could be ADDED, REMOVED, or RECLASSIFIED. If your country is on this list โ€” watch this closely. Changes could happen with little warning.

๐Ÿ“ JUNE 29, 2026 โ€” DEADLINE
โฐ Public comment period closes on the new H.R. 1 immigration fee rules. These fees include a 900% increase on TPS applications and a 59% increase on work permit (EAD) fees. If these rules affect you, now is the time to make your voice heard through the Federal Register.

๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ท JUNE 30, 2026
Liberian Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) is set to expire. If you are a Liberian national currently protected under DED โ€” contact an immigration attorney NOW before this deadline.

โœ๐Ÿพ JULY 10, 2026 โ€” NEW USCIS RULE
A brand new rule takes effect: if USCIS decides your immigration application has an invalid signature, they can reject it AND keep your filing fee โ€” treating it as fully decided. Double-check every document before you submit.

๐Ÿ’ก BOTTOM LINE:
The immigration system is changing FAST. Missing one deadline, one signature, one fee โ€” could cost you your case.

โœ… Consult a licensed immigration attorney
โœ… Monitor uscis.gov and travel.state.gov
โœ… Share this post โ€” someone in your network NEEDS this information

One thing nobody warns DV Lottery winners about is that when you land in America, the government quietly reduces the number of hours in a day.

Back home in Africa, a day has about 32 hours.

You can:
โœ” Go to work
โœ” Visit your auntie
โœ” Attend a wedding
โœ” Stop by a funeral
โœ” Watch football with friends
โœ” Chat with neighbors for two hours
โœ” Take a nap

โ€ฆand somehow the day is still not over.

Then you arrive in America.

6:00 AM โ€” Wake up
7:00 AM โ€” Leave for work
5:30 PM โ€” Get home
6:00 PM โ€” Make dinner
8:00 PM โ€” Shower

Suddenly itโ€™s 10:00 PM and youโ€™re asking yourself:

โ€œWaitโ€ฆ what happened to the rest of the day?โ€ ๐Ÿคฃ

Nobody told us that in America, time runs like itโ€™s trying to catch a flight.

๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Be honest: After moving to America, did it feel like the days got shorter, or is it just me?

Latest DV Lottery Update
๐Ÿšจ WHICH U.S. EMBASSY IS WINNING THE DV RACE? ๐Ÿšจ
The latest DV visa issuance numbers reveal some surprising leaders!
๐Ÿ† DV Embassy Power Rankings

๐Ÿฅ‡ #1 Tirana โ€” 100.0%
๐Ÿฅˆ #2 Ankara โ€” 99.5%
๐Ÿฅ‰ #3 Kathmandu โ€” 99.4%
๐Ÿ… #4 Tbilisi โ€” 99.2%
๐Ÿ… #5 Addis Ababa โ€” 99.1%
๐Ÿ… #6 Nairobi โ€” 95.2%
๐Ÿ… #7 Cairo โ€” 94.8%

๐Ÿ”ฅ But hereโ€™s the real shockerโ€ฆ

Cairo isnโ€™t just on the list.

It is the BUSIEST U.S. embassy in the entire dataset with a massive 870 DV cases decided โ€” yet it still maintained an incredible 94.8% issuance rate.

That is a remarkable performance for such a high-volume post.

๐Ÿ“ˆ What does this tell DV selectees?

โœ… Some embassies are operating with exceptional efficiency.
โœ… High case volume does not automatically mean higher refusals.
โœ… Being well-prepared for your interview remains critical.

๐ŸŒŽ Now itโ€™s your turn:

๐Ÿ‘‡ COMMENT BELOW with:
1๏ธโƒฃ Your embassy
2๏ธโƒฃ Your country
3๏ธโƒฃ Whether youโ€™ve already been interviewed, are waiting for an interview, or are still waiting for your case number to become current.

Letโ€™s see which embassies are represented most in the Wofoy TV community!

๐Ÿ“ข SHARE this post with another DV selectee. They may be surprised to see where their embassy ranks.
