🚨 IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR NIGERIA-BASED APPLICANTS 🚨

You may have seen posts circulating about the US Embassy in Abuja shutting down. Here's what we actually know:

✅ WHAT'S TRUE:
The US Embassy in Abuja has already suspended routine visa appointments (since April 2026) due to security concerns. Additionally, a leaked State Department memo indicates the US plans to cut Africa visa-processing posts from ~50 down to just 20 regional hubs — and Abuja did NOT make the cut. Lagos did.

This means: If you are in Northern or Central Nigeria, you will likely need to travel to Lagos for your visa interview.

⚠️ WHAT'S NOT CONFIRMED:
This has NOT been officially announced as a permanent, total closure. The US Mission has described current restrictions as subject to review.

📌 WHAT YOU SHOULD DO NOW:
1️⃣ Monitor ng.usembassy.gov for official updates
2️⃣ If you have a scheduled Abuja appointment, check your email — you may already have a reschedule notice
3️⃣ Start planning for the possibility of traveling to Lagos for your interview
4️⃣ Do NOT cancel or abandon your case — just be ready to adapt

🚨 IF YOUR FAMILY VISA WAS DENIED FOR “PUBLIC CHARGE” — READ THIS.

This is one of the most heartbreaking situations I see in our community.

Someone in Africa waits months — sometimes years — for their immigrant visa interview. They dress up. They pray. They go to the embassy full of hope.

Then they get a letter that says:
“Your visa application has been refused.”

And somewhere in that letter, you see the words Section 212(a)(4) — also known as the Public Charge ground of inadmissibility.

🤔 What does “Public Charge” even mean?

In plain English, the U.S. government is saying:
“We believe this person is likely to depend on government financial assistance after entering the U.S.”

It is NOT about whether YOU have money.
It is about whether your sponsor in the U.S. has enough income to support you.

📋 Here’s what usually triggers this denial:

✅ Your petitioner (sponsor) filed a Form I-864 — Affidavit of Support
❌ BUT their income on their tax return did not meet 125% of the U.S. Federal Poverty Guideline for their household size

Here’s the part that SHOCKS most people in our community 👇

Many of our people in the U.S. are self-employed or own small businesses.
Their business may be doing well — but after claiming business deductions and expenses, their tax return shows little to zero income.

The consulate does NOT look at your sponsor’s bank account.
They do NOT look at how much money the business made.
They look at the bottom line on the tax return.

So a sponsor making $80,000 a year in revenue could show $0 in net income after expenses — and that triggers a public charge denial.

⚠️ What happens next if you receive this letter?

The letter may mention that you are eligible to apply for a waiver using Form I-601, submitted to USCIS.

I want to be clear — I am not telling you what to do. Every case is different. But I want you to KNOW this option exists so you are not left feeling like it’s completely over.

💬 My honest message to our community:

Before your sponsor files the I-864, please verify their income situation. Self-employment income looks very different on paper than it does in real life.

👩🏽‍⚖️If you find yourself in such a predicament, talk to a licensed immigration attorney.

🇱🇷 JUNE 30, 2026
Liberian Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) is set to expire. If you are a Liberian national currently protected under DED — contact an immigration attorney NOW before this deadline.

✍🏾 JULY 10, 2026 — NEW USCIS RULE
A brand new rule takes effect: if USCIS decides your immigration application has an invalid signature, they can reject it AND keep your filing fee — treating it as fully decided. Double-check every document before you submit.

💡 BOTTOM LINE:
The immigration system is changing FAST. Missing one deadline, one signature, one fee — could cost you your case.

One thing nobody warns DV Lottery winners about is that when you land in America, the government quietly reduces the number of hours in a day.

Back home in Africa, a day has about 32 hours.

You can:
✔ Go to work
✔ Visit your auntie
✔ Attend a wedding
✔ Stop by a funeral
✔ Watch football with friends
✔ Chat with neighbors for two hours
✔ Take a nap

…and somehow the day is still not over.

Then you arrive in America.

6:00 AM — Wake up
7:00 AM — Leave for work
5:30 PM — Get home
6:00 PM — Make dinner
8:00 PM — Shower
